What are are your opinions on these new "anti-terror" laws? I find it worrying that ASIO is get more powers that are vaguely defined.

Absolute disgrace. They should be called Anti Media laws instead.
I just deleted my Twitter account and Facebook account in case I accidentally get jailed for 10 years.

Would be pretty sweet to be an ASIO agent as of Tuesday though, untouchable.

Seems a bit much, but at the same time it could help...

The bottom line is though, don't be stupid on the internet

KeeK Tre 18:46 29/Sep/14

Got to agree with imgne. Unless you're doing something wrong you've got nothing to worry about. Pretty sure ASIO has better things to do than track what type of porn Bazza watches. But the media loves to blow things up and sensationalise things to sell their stories

Its about freedom of information Keek Tre and you will be no more secure on Wednesday. You will be less free though.

It's also the laws penalise whistle-blowers and journo's reporting on sensitive info. The government already censored reporting on asylum seekers because it suited them. Who knows what else could be censored?

Also, what happens if the government reckons they can get away with silencing views they don't like? It's unlikely now but in a state of war or tough times the government can make up bullshit to convince people to have the powers to do what is "necessary". I guess Australia has always had it good so even to me it seems farfetched but still isn't impossible.

The internet needs to stay free and open. It's too powerful to be controlled.
If they tap in and "monitor" us, filtering our searches, they choose what prioritizes on our search results. Ending up controlling what we see, what they want us to see. They make money off of our browsing for free, using us as a number. I'm sure governments pay big money to Facebook to have certain bottom level information like age, addresses, gender and top searches.
They want to know how to control us. The war we're in at the moment isn't a nuclear war, or chemical war, it's a war in the mind and everyone is a solider.

Whistle blowers need to be recognised as heroes within the community, rather than threatened and treated like terrorists because people listen to mainstream media. But hey, if someone leaked a photo of me fingering my dog, I'd be pretty pissed at them too and make up a story saying they were l33t terrorist h4ckers.
They're just pissed that their secrets are being revealed.

P.S I didn't read the news article. Just wanted to add my two cents

Just watched 'Not quite Hollywood' and saw how pretty great and open minded our country was in the 70's.
Now fucking look at it today. Jealousy, greed , distrust reign supreme in the community and in the media.
Australians used to be better than this shit.....now what? We are all the bad things that came over from the US.
That whole 'we need these laws to catch bad people' is bullshit because the Martin Place nutter was well known to authorities and the extended powers that they had that were brought in since 911 didn't work.
So rather than work out how Asio and NSW police fucked up, and what went wrong, the government scares the shit outta the sheep and passes more draconian shit to save us from the next moron with a Qua-ran.

If you do not believe any of this will not be abused for personal gain you will probably be excited for I'm a celebrity get me out of here.

When the government has no one regulating them and now no way of whistleblowers to uncover the governments wrong doings how we can trust them to act in our best interests to its people and other countries?
