On the size of the bowl...
I like to think I can handle myself reasonably well on very and bigger bowls I stood at the top of the thing and actually didn't want to get in there, maybe I'm getting to old ? . The snake run however! That was a blast.
Ahh nothing personal intended josh, never heard of the guy, just seems to be a repeated pattern of old dudes being the ones who design parks, they allocate a huge chunk of the budget to some redic big bowl and the street section suffers. Just laying some random hate, not shooting sniper rifles at this park / guy specifically. Good to see some passion in this thread tho.
You say that shutdown, but you don't get it. People like you, that spend too much time on the internet, have forgotten common courtesy. You would never go up to the blokes on the trowels, the people like Johnny that have spent years making this project a reality and the people lobbying council and say to them "you are washed up old cunts just making this for yourselves"
That is the reality. You're a grown arse man, you should understand that that is what you are doing. Did you not see the street section of the park? It would have to be the best in the state. All people like you can do is shitcan the hard yards people have put in. Maybe this kind of attitude, and apathy, is why Sydney struggles to get facilities? There are crew making great efforts in Sydney, are you guys backing them up?
Skateboarding is a tight knit community amongst those who actually skate. The online skate community doesn't reflect this. Bitchy, snide attitudes like yours have killed this forum.
You aren't even from this state. Try and do something positive. Get off the forum and ride your skateboard.
I may be having a "man that yells at cloud" moment but fuck me you are this cunt.
Anyone who has ever worked on a skatepark proposal knows that you are pretty much guaranteed to finish up as one of Shutdown's hated old dudes by the time it is actually built.
Most skateparks take 8 - 9 years just to get through town planning....then for the next couple of years you have put up with all the whinny little bitches that, that did not lift one finger to help, go on, and on, and on, about too much tranny, not enough street, or the bowl is too deep, or too shallow...even after the concrete is dry......you know what Josh....I am not so sure that recommending getting off the forum and riding a skateboard is going to be that positive.....cause who the fuck really wants to see such a do-nothing, whinny, hating, little bitch casting a shadow on any skateboard.
Good thread. Hi Drew (long time no speak/post). Perhaps you could make a feature where forum heads can tick threads they like and get notifications on the home page?! That would be dope.
Also, this thread.
Please send some of these respected park builders and designers and passionate skate people to Sydney. We need some fucking parks. PLEASE. I laugh and cry every time I see the hashtag #sorrysydney haha
Anyways. Drew, for example. I will probably have trouble finding this thread once I post, a little notification would be handy and I can go to the feed and click straight back on here!
SWEETTTT Hope I get my oder soon.
Hello to those lurkers still around on the forums from the yesteryears!
Haha fuck me, there's more life in this thread than there's been on this whole forum in months. And you say I do nothing to contribute.
It's the internet josh, if I wanna say I think something waste of time and money on a forum thats my choice. I don't need to meet the dudes with the trowels or the guys who lobbied for shit to have that opinion. Check the history, I been lobbying against transition hell hole park designs on here for over a decade. Don't care how many vert legends you sign up to design em, they just breed bmx riders and turn some young kids off taking up skateboarding entirely (or parents from letting them).
Glad to hear the street section is good, nice for a change, it's not how it usually pans out. And sorry you got so butthurt, I hope your not as much of a serious rage merchant in real life as you come across on here.
Now back to the hate.
Nice decade of lobbying. Anything actually achieved?
Not a rage merchant. Just calling you out for being a bitter, negative dick. Always trying for hero moments at the expense of others. I rarely fire up son, you should know that.
Enjoy your imminent transition into the "I used to skate" camp.
Anyhow, I reckon I have an idea as to how we can resolve this petty feud. You post up a photo in this thread of you doing a transition manoeuvre, and I will do the same of a street move. Nothing special. We can congratulate each other and move on. Bonus points awarded for a selfie at some kind of skatepark consultation.
I just want to put on the record too that i have had no involvement with this park whatsoever. I don't want it to appear as such, or that was why i was defending the design and people involved.
Amusingly one of the very few pieces of media pics out there is of me skating a bowl but good luck finding it. I spent most weekends skating a capsule bowl local as a kid, I grew up in the era with a giant home made quarter or half pipe at the end of every suburban coulder sac / in ppls backyards annoying neighbours. Young kids lining up to do kick turn after kick turn, rock n rolls and one or two legends who could bust a few grabs one foot above the coping. Most those guys moved to proper vert skating while the rest gave up skating completely once they realised how limited they were and moved on to shit like music and drugs.
I get the 'dream' you old guys are chasing, but i don't agree with ramming it down the next generations throat, and even more so I don't get why they have to be so damn big!
Some of these park bowls lately just seem like they are trying to win tallest deep end competitions at the expense of alienating more and more kids. Young dudes don't have the body mass to get serious air on those giant bowl corners from carving, and most the old dudes from my era seem to struggle to get a foot above the coping too. Add to that the joke afterthought that is usually the street section and it starts to annoy me. Go look at empire skate park for example, on any normal weekend the pissy little 'street' section is crammed full of kids having fun and the bowl is one giant vacant chasm that you consider yourself lucky of u see someone skate other than using the shallow end as a mini.
