Food, drinking, shopping etc.

I haven't been yet, but I'm a huge fan of bonsai trees... Here's a link to some supposed good nurseries in Japan...

Visit cities other than Tokyo. Hire a pushy where possible to fit more in to your day, as Tokyo can be pretty overwhelming. Make the most of the game arcades, gyoza and asahi vending machines :)

Tokyo:

Hanbey in shibuya - really cheap drinks and food in an area that is fucking expensive. Mos burger is rad, and lotteria. The beef bowl places (cant remember the name but there's one on every corner) do curries for $4 with rice - so good. Genki sushi is really good too, the whole monorail system is sick. There's a fried chicken place opposite the one in shibuya i recommend as well.

If your clothes shopping harajuku is real expensive and so busy, I found koenji and shimokitazawa less packed with just as much cool shit.
If your camera shopping don't bother going much further than shinjuku I did and wasted too much time.

Arcades are so much fun.

Going out we didnt have much luck, heaps of cool little bars on love hotel hill in shibuya and golden gai in shinjuku is good but a little expensive, I always went to this place called beat cafe but don't bother it's always packed full of yanks and other rude white folk so it's pretty shit.

If you are directionally able there's a tiny place a station away from shinjuku that did $1.40 schooners of asahi - cheapest I found. I never did work out if there was a cover charge or not though. Think you need to buy some food. Me and the missus had about six beers each and some food and it only cost us $30.

Go to the owl cafe. Fuck the cat and the rabbit cafés they sucked.

Let me know if your planning on going anywhere else. I just got back from a month travelling all over and I already want to go back.

Fuck yeah cheers Curtis we're off to Tokyo in a couple days via Shizouka & those really speicific hot tips is what I've been trying to leach out of people for weeks now.

A few hot tips for anyone else venturing to the land of the rising sun:
-Baggage handlers are retards
-watch your flashes don't go 'missing' mid shoot
-you will need an international drivers license to hire a car

If you are staying in Shibuya, go for a skate over towards the office buildings/business district area.. Heaps of spots.. That famous 20 Diego Bucceri ollied is over there too.

Go to the Nike SB park, plenty of locals who might show you around. Check out Supreme and Neighborhood, theres a few good stores close by. Don't hold up the train by holding open the door or you'll find out

If you like guitars or any other instruments for that matter go to Ochanomizu
Shop after shop of amazing Gibson ripoffs (Burny, Greco, Orville) from the era when they were truly awesome - or actually it's some of the cheapest I've seen real Gibbys as well.

A few of the custom workshops are around there too (ESP, etc.) so you can see them building guitars and all the one-offs they make for NAMM

If you look like you are in a band you will also be signing autographs all day it's really strange
