There will be a meeting on the 15th at 4pm at the site. I will be going, so if you can make it cool if not post some pics of ideas and I will submit them for you. Unless of course they suck. Apparently no drafts on the table as yet. Let's have a good turnout so we don't end up with something lame. It is the same council that looks after coburg so we can hurry them up to fix the bowl that they have agreed to
From council....
we are planning a new skate park, in Fawkner. At CB Smith Reserve, on Jukes Road, next to the Fawkner Secondary College / Leisure Centre. It's in the very-very early stages, nothing has been designed or decided yet. Convic have just been engaged to design & construct, to be completed by June next year. There is an initial design consultation meeting on at 4pm Wednesday 15 December, on site. We'd love it if you and your mates could make it, otherwise send through any ideas or suggestions and we'll see what we can come up with.
My personal thoughts (It is hard to say without knowing the potential budget) is a really creative, flowy, interesting plaza. There is plenty of tranny in the area (Northcote, Coburg, Jacana, Meadow Heights, Fitzy) and a few really fun tranny bits would be rad. This surfer sam designed bench is fun lookin'
Haha,sweet location...It's going to be over-run by fuckheads. And those benches look pointless,only so much you could do on them!
Man I see a whole bunch of lines on those things! Surprisingly inexpensive too. Fair Dinkum is on the money

Some jersey action. Jersey corner perhaps?
This would be good if the bench was flush with teh bottom of the bank, so you could do tricks on the bench and then either pop out and not land in the bank, or land in the bank for epic styleszz steeze.
and if the bench was long enough so you could go up the bank and then down onto the bench.
Yeah moccos I can picture that. Basically every obstacle in that park is a winner!
Anybody else have ideas? Nosferatu how about you chief? Throw some ideas in?

Well the meeting went well. Of course no one showed! I do get ticked off when they want to make sure BMX get obstacles that they like when I can't remember a single consultation with any BMX showing up. The issue with that too is that then the council go and ask the local BMX kids at the shops and get crap input!
The old chestnut of how people "interact with the space" came up a bit too. If you build a quality skate park people will interact with it plenty. You can bring in the movie screens for the once a year event that they are utilised or make a local wall a legal if you want a paint space, there ain't enough money for that shenanigans!
The current outcome is a plaza with flow. The main issue with plazas is the backwards and forwards nature and the obstacles not linking. An idea that was cool is three varying "sadlands" inspired brick volcanoes in a row in the middle with the other main features in the corners. Jersey barrier corners and tight whippy tranny mixed in with creative street elements.
Anyhow the guys from convic were in the same page and we should end up with something fun and interesting. Sadlands clip to see the volcano inspiration.
