Reservoir Skate Pak - renovations

Max Finlay 14:25 12/Mar/12

The Reservoir Skate Park has received a modest amount of $$dough for some basic additions. The intention is to keep the existing park layout and add a few recycled and retro fitted bits and bobs - extending into some of the ball court next to the back end of the park.

This tuesday (13th March - 4.00 - 5.30 at the park) council is hosting a consultation workshop to gather ideas and input to decide what would be good.

If anyone has any ideas come along, or email us at bwilson@darebin.vic.gov.au

that is awesome as long as they don't mess with anything that is currently there! a nice long small quarter running down the back (closest to the lake) would be amazing (leaving enough run up for the tram barrier).
Maybe a smallish concrete mini ramp?

If jersey barriers are placed in each corner we can crete them up. On bricks would be perfect to have that extra bit of tranny.

I have a good pole jam to crete in. In front of one of the garden gap squares maybe?

A cinder block wall with a hexagonal parking block could be fun for transfers ect (see attached, but on a cinder block wall)

How did the meeting go?

not bad, it looks like we have access to the two back halves of the adjoining basketball courts making it 3 courts wide. Jersey barrier & parking block DIY style are an almost certainty. There will be no resurfacing of existing slabs / bitumin. Therfore we will utilise the space by creating bridging obstacles from court to court, ie: manny pad and the slippery slide will be re-born as a more skateable object. The existing skate space will get additions to the corners to add flow with return obstacles. Might catch up with you tonight @ Matts Josh. I got some A3 prints for design concepts. Alternately get in contact with Barney on the above Darebin email address.

Oh yeah i was one of 2 skaters there not associated with the council directly. Come on guys (gals) lets get behind this and make it worthwile

Nice one. Hopefully it opens the door for a bit of DIY action

Max Finlay 21:25 14/Mar/12

To those that made it, Thanks for the input on tuesday. For those that didn't but who would still like to add some input or want further information, my email again is bwilson@darebin.vic.gov.au or ph: 8470 8001.

Next step:

Over the next month we aim to finalise the initial design of the parks additions. The extension of the park into the two adjacent old ball courts presents the opportunity to follow up with further additions down the line.

Over the next 12 months the park will develop a process for installing found and re-invented objects/infrastructure that will incorporate opportunities - for people interested - to add things and ensure they are not removed due to risk and liability. We hope this will keep with the feel of the place and offer up a rideable street scape seldom found in public skate parks.

Thanks again,

Barney

Spoke to Barney to see if I can lend a hand and he is all over it. Ruler! It will be a bit of a long project by the sounds of it with recycled items sourced and used.

Should be one of the best things to happen to North side Melbourne skateboarding.

Ripping work Barney and Josh...
You know I grew up a few hundred metres from where that Resa park is (on the other side of the lake)
I actually went to the Darebin council in 1986 to get a park built and that area at the top of the hill/above the lake was one of the locations they were considering to build at back then....but then, the bowl they built was at the Leisure centre a few k's away in 1989.... the awesome kinked one which was filled in after 4 years....I'll try and dig up some pics of it

I heard about that bowl, never skated it.

I haven't done squat with resi by the way just one 5 minute chat with Barney. He does great work for young people in darebin

This sounds amazing! If only all councils applied this type of freedom towards parks. Sourcing one of those cali styled picnic tables and dynabolting it in somewhere smooth would be amazing.
I can't attend any meetings during the day due to work.
Your ideas so far josh have been really good!

i havent heard anything Josh, I ran into Barney at Preston 24hr Maccas a cupla weeks ago. He still sounded psyched on the project. I will shoot him an email later today to sus where they are at. Keen as for the group excursion to source second hand industrial skateable objects
