I'm seeing Hoon ads in all the Seppo mags now. I didn't even think they had proper BBQ's over there. Is it hard to get a 6 pack of lamb and rosemary sausages in North America?

I don't know about 'all over' the Seppo mags. We've had a couple of Hoon ads in Slap and Thrasher. You're right though - they wouldn't know what to do with a proper barby. They think a charcoal Webber with some hamburger patties on it is a barbeque. To be honest, the only decent barbys I've had in the States have been at Mumford's house - they don't call it The embassy for nothing.

Does the term 'HOON' really translate into Sepponese? I always thought it was a fairly Australian term for a young man in an old Holden with a heavy foot.

No, not really, but that's ok. I've heard people suggest that Australia lacks culture, but guess what - that bloke doing doughnuts in his Ute while his mates are sinking tinnies in the back; that is our culture.

Out of all the photos you have had published (ones of you). Do you have any that you are really stoked on? Ones you want to show your grandkids when they are on your knee and you're telling them how much you ripped.

Yeah man - there's heaps I'm stoked on. I've been really lucky over the years to shoot with some of the best photographers in the world, and I also feel lucky to be able to call guys like O'Meally and Gourlay my mates. All O'Meally's old stuff back around the Time and Grace Skateboards days, around '95 to '97, just because it was such an awesome period - out skating with Boglio, Kovak, Westy, and all those guys. I also really like Gorby's stuff from the first Pot-Hole mission back in 2002 - that was just an insane session and his photos bring the whole experience back any time I see them.

You told me you started a new zine and it's called Fucken Oath. I give you 3 months until you change the name to "teen skateboarding friends club" and your major advertisers are Australian Navy Recruitment and Crazy Frog Ringtone downloads. I'll put a $20 on it.

It's actually spelled 'Fuknoath', like one word. Me and Andrew Peters are putting it together. It's going to be a free black and white 'zine, which with a name like Fuknoath, obviously doesn't take itself too seriously. Our only editorial policy is 'to entertain.' Hmm, TSFC . . . it does have a nice ring to it. Maybe we could do an article on 'Gimmick Skateboarding; How To Make It Jamming Poles In Fruity Pants.'

So you're officially a media mogul then hey? With Sean/Jack doing the Journal, there is now some skater owned mags out and about. How do you think skater owned stuff differs from the big magazine corporation type ones?

I don't know about 'mogul.' For starters, it's not a magazine; it's a 'zine. I love what those guys are doing with Journal, and I'll always have a place in my heart for Slam because I was involved with it from the age of 14. Slam and Journal are the most important mediums in Australia for people to see what's happening in our skate-scene. Fuknoath is coming from completely different angle - we're doing it simply because we want to, and if people don't like it that's ok. We have the luxury of not having to be impartial or objective. We're gonna run photos and stories on people we like, because we feel like it, as opposed to having a company telling us who needs coverage.

So when can we expect a copy? and where can we get them? and who is being rad in the first one?

We were hoping to have it out by Christmas, but with the festive season approaching both Peters and myself have a flat-out schedule of hangovers upon us, so more realistically early in the new year. I think we're going to try to have a launch party for issue one, so we'll post the info on the site. It will be available for free on the counter of any legit skate shop, and we'll also set up a Po Box address so people can send a stamped self-addressed envelope to us and we'll send it out. As far as raddness for issue one we've got Dane Burman and Jim Fowlie interviews, along with some tight shit of guys like Chima, Sammy Winter, Willy Ackerman and Ryan Baczynski, plus a bunch of less-known guys. Admittedly the first issue is fairly Sydney and Canberra orientated, just because that's basically the material we were sitting on, but hopefully everyone gets psyched on it and it becomes more of a nation-wide thing. Fuknoath.

What trick do you think everyone should learn before they die.

Beer bongs.

Why don't they sell aspirin in the jungle?

Because weed grows naturally. Fucken' Jah Bless, mate.

Have you ever ridden Jim's dick-board?

Yeah, but I don't feel privileged. Jim's a slut when it comes to his Big Dick board. It's long, and hard, and glides over the rough spots with ease.

Jim's pretty much married now. Do you think Amy would mind if I asked for a ride on Jim's Big Dick board? What trick do you suggest I do on Jim's Big Dick board?

Well, Amy's a bit of a freak. I wouldn't be surprised if she invited her girlfriends over to watch you ride Jim's Big Dick. Personally, I just enjoy a good hard grind on it.

You're living in Sydney, but From Brissy. Are you going to join the SOS Crew or BOSS Crew? when you're a little older?

I'm not from Brissy. I was born on the Sunny Coast, and grew up on the Gold Coast, so I'd have to start the GOSH crew - Goldy Oldie Shit Holy crew. Nah, I just don't subscribe to all that 'old school' shit. I mean, it's cool for those dudes to be into it I guess - I just don't feel the need to categorise myself in that pigeon hole. I skate with guys as young as 15, and some into their 40's. Maybe I should start the MASH crew - Middle Aged Skate Hacks.

So tell me about Volley. Do you think you can get me some Dunlop Steel Radials on the cheap

What do you want to know? I skated in Volleys in 1993, and I'm skating in them again now - they're an Aussie institution, so I'm stoked. Dunno about the radials, but I might be able to get you some KT-26's.
