Tinbum Interview

By Trev - Photos Bibby + Hermans + Chris McDonald

Polejam - Bibby

Tinbum is a wild creature that you cant tame, not like a ravenous dog but more like a mythical creature that emits its own aura. Tinbum is overly creative and certainly dances to a different beat which most might take the wrong way. Nothing really stresses him, he is humble, content and pretty much likes everyone. acquiring a Unicorn that shits Rainbows he is paving a righteous and unique path to skate enlightenment through his new vid Ramshakle. If you dont know him by now then you have never been to the forums.

Trev W:How long have you been skating?

Nick C: I think 15 around years. mum never let me have a skateboard but she went away one time and i bought one while she was gone.

Phone goes off:

Trev W: Damn it you always get messages, your big time, Bitches?

NC: Im always blowing up!

TW: Whats your name for those out there that dont know?

NC: Nick Clarke

TW: How did you get the name Tinbum and who gave it to you?

NC: My cousins just called me it when I was little, well they called me Nichol-Ass and then Nickle Ass just turned into Tinbum. And so I claimed it!

TW: You dont get any other names?

NC: When people call me Nick I rarely respond to it. I get Tim a lot

TW: Do you respond to that?

NC: Yeah just to be polite

TW: Where did you live when you started skating? And who was the town ripper?

NC: I lived in Foster which is where Dean Parsons is from and he was so fucking good. He was doing nollie nosestalls on Curbs back then and I was blown away.

TW: How old were you when you moved from there and where to?

FingerFlip - Hermans

NC: I was 15 when I left Foster and I moved to Orange. Me and goonman were the only kids who owned a skateboard there.

TW: Is that when your hair turned Orange?

NC: Yeah maybe, it used to be a lot more orange when I was younger, so I was Orange in Orange! Now its blonde-esque

TW: So then you moved to Albury and became like the King of Albury, because anytime anyone used to go there they would call on your services?

NC: When I moved to Albury I wasnt the King, there were so many shredders there and then they all dropped off the face of the planet and I was the only one left with a skateboard.

TW: Who was the Ripper from Albury and what is he doing now?

NC: Colin Quest. He was basically rick mcCrank. He is a DJ now like most of those skateboarders from that Era.

TW: Who was your first sponsor? Who are your sponsors now

NC: Image Skateboards, Clinton from Cairns hooked me up. He is the man. You sponsor me now, Lurkville and Theeve. Oh and Diftwood. although jack (dowden) still hasnt sent me my 1 brown paper bag a month that was written in the contract.

TW: You have a pretty good name on the forums and people seem to like you, why is this?

NC: probs Because I have had the same Avatar for 8 years and never changed it haha.

TW: Is that pic of you standing there? Did you do it in Paint or something?

NC: Yeah. Its so Gay

Double Decker - Mapstone

TW: Who is the most influential skater out there or type of skating that inspires you to skate?

NC: I dont know I dont watch anyone who does like, whack shit. I watch all the shit I cant do like Hand rails, Tranny and Vert dudes. Just shit I cant do. Duffel, billy marks, those kinda guys.

TW: So how would you describe your skating? Its unique.

NC: Um I dont know I cant really do good tricks so I make up my own stuff.

TW: Would you say you are a very creative person and you would get slid into being slightly misunderstood because of it?

NC: Perhaps.

TW: When did you first meet Dean 123?

NC: I dont know. i think it was on an online dating site...

TW: Thats what everyone says, I wish I hadnt.

NC: No I dont know I think it was through the forums and then Brett Jordan possibly.

TW: So you decided to go with Dean to the USA?

NC: I was going to go alone and then a week before I left he bought a ticket and joined the crusade.

TW: Tell me about the way you co-ordinated this trip, because you were on different flights and you didnt have a plan to meet other than Ill see you in San Diego.

Front Boardy - McDonald

NC: We just said we will just meet in San Diego. We will just go down town and meet up when we get there. We both got different flights. He got Business class and I got Broom Closet class. We didnt think it through because we didnt have phone numbers or anything. but we lucked out and got into a wifi zone at the same time and figured out where one another was.

TW: Who did you hang out with in the USA?

NC: My old mate Austin who got deported from Australia, this legend called Stu and Street Trev (ward) and Adam Davies.

TW: Where in the USA did you go?

NC: From San Diego to Atlanta to Savanah to jail to St Simons Island to jacksonville to Tampa to Orlando to Daytona. Then we flew to Canada and stayed with Davies in Vancouver. Then we went to Victoria which i think is the Capital of Canada, I dont know I had never heard of it. And from here we went down to Washington to stay with Street Trev Ward and just skated around Portland and Burnside and skated all the gnarly tranny shit and then just went back down to Deigo.

TW: Then Came and annoyed the crap out of Vert Trev? You just needed food and shit

NC: No you were there at the start of our trip. But yeah dean likes a good meal hustle.

TW: Do you think you ate or Drank more than ate on your trip?

NC: I drank more for sure.

TW: What was your drink of choice?

NC: 4 Locos and it would get us blacked out most nights. I think they cost $5 for 2, maybe cheaper if you could find a deal, that and a slab of beer for $10. 4 Locos are like drinking a 6 pack of beer and 2 Red Bulls and you drink them in 20 minutes. Thats why you black out.

TW: So Dicks and Cocks. Thats like the boldest name to call a movie. How did this come about?

NC: Yeah this was way back when Colin Quest used to skate and we were talking about how all these skate movies have shit names like The Storm make skateboarding seem cooler than it is like Fulfil the Dream and we were just thought fuck it lets call it the gayest name we can think of. but try make it good still.

TW: Do you think you succeeded?

NC: I like it. I dont know about other people but I like it but I put a lot of work into it. The intro and stuff...

TW: I think that movie drew some attention to you. Now Ramshakle?

NC: *Burps*. Well back in the my friend Tom Frawley used to live in Mt Beauty and he skating and filming for a vid he was gonna call ramshakle. It came out as a 3 min length unfinished VHS that has been lost in the void. when i finished Dicks and Cocks we thought we would get another video going and then we picked up where Ramshakle had started 10 years earlier.

TW: Darn 10 years in the making. Thats been in the making longer than the new Plan B vid.

NC: Yeah that one is never coming out.

Impossible Nose - Bibby

TW: When is Ramshakle due for release?

NC: hopefully Christmas 2012

TW: Who is going to be in Ramshakle?

NC: Waylon Hendricks, Deon might have a trick. Jai Stork probably have last part,

TW: what about Vert

NC: thats in Bonus sections *laughs*. Brad Sinclair, Ricky Glaser, Jeffers, Tom Frawley, Myself and Trev Ward (Street and Vert)

TW: Tell me about VX Vs HD? When will you live in the Now!

NC: Never, Fuck that shit I love my camera. My Camera has had everything broken off it at one stage or another. its still alive. I love that thing.

TW: Its got a dick painted on it with nail polish right?

NC: Yeah I have given it a touch up it looks rad.

TW: So Bibby? Whats with him?

NC: Bibby is rad, he is always down to do something but sometimes i get frustrated with him. But you have to love the Lesbian

TW: Do you think you have taken Water skating to another level? I dont think people know what this is.

NC: i dunno, I just decided one day to do trick into the fountains. It was hot and I wanted to cool down.

TW: Where was your first water skating feat?

NC: Near Parliament.

TW: Now its warming up will you be finishing your part with more water skating?

NC: Yeah for sure I have a few spots in mind.

TW: Is it purely for summer?

NC: No I did it in Tassie in winter. that was bloody cold.

TW: What about the secret tapes of Heath Kirchart you found? Do you think you are the luckiest person alive to have these?

NC: yeah i cant beleive i just found that tape! after he retired too. the footage must be worth a fair bit.

TW: Do you wish Heath could see this?

NC: haha i hope he does. he is da bawss

TW: Who is the biggest Hater on the forums?

NC: it used to be shutdown back in the day. but now hes chilled out on the hate. it kinda sucks. now days, im not too sure. there isnt enough hate anymore.

TW: Who is the worst person on the Forums?

TW: Do you think Drew Peacock is weird?

NC: i heard he beat up some dude at the skatepark now he has a hella hot misso becuase of it. He should go around telling jokes pretending he is peter hellier who has recently lost weight.

TW: Tell me out about any crazy ass stories from the USA?

NC: Haha the list is too long. Theres the time we drove around florida living out of the car, 3 of us and a puppy, showering under taps at skateparks and shooting fireworks out the car through the middle of cities. Or being in jail with extremely racist southern folk. Or finding a mutant owl with 2 heads. Or how often wed get into fucked up situations the night before we had to catch a flight. or how awesome Mack White is. i could go on in detail for days but i think we should wrap this up. i think its already pretty long...

TW: Who do you want to thank?

Tom Frawley, Jai stork, Brad Sinclaire and Deon. Goonman, Joel Crowe, TJ, Bibby, Adam Anderson, Jeffers, Outer Space, Steve Mcinnes, the Trevs, both street and vert. Ben, Wormish and xGENISISx, Puppies, Matty D, Andy Ricky Dave and AL. Clinton D. Vx1000. Gooch St dudes. Crayons, Nail polish, Slappy curbs, Fourloko, Stu, Nickmeh and Waylon. And Austin.
