HELP!!! Helensburgh Skatepark

Spoke to Paul Campbell...

He is really keen to hear feedback on the design and has no hidden agendas (as far as I could tell!) He just wants to make sure that Helensburgh gets a good facility.

So... bring on the comments and suggestion on design, he told me he regularly checks the site for feedback.

Dont you fucking dare let someone other than an experienced park builder get their hands on this thing. If you waste the public money by getting jo fucken concretor to "have a go" I will sue. If you dont have the money to get someone with experience, just make park a bit smaller. You will have a medium sized excellent park rather than a large expanse of absolute shit. I have seem millions of bucks wasted by councils getting people with no idea "have a go" at designing parks and laying tranny. Its a fucking disgrace.

I agree totally...

At the end of the day it's up to Council who builds it so we need to convince them of the improtance of engaging a suitably experienced contractor.

I will stay in contact with Steve from Council and try my best to convince him of the importance of the above...

As a skater it totally pisses me off the see parks that are fucked due to poor design and/or construction.

Your other option, if the council has already got a builder is to get an experienced skatepark builder to consult on the project. My 2 cents

Hey dinkum, i was having a piss in convics portaloo at point kook, the flush pump device was made by "dinkum industries", something I am sure your life is better off knowing

Yared 18:29 23/Dec/04

if the park is actually going to be made, then just get it made by the right builders
eg: rye skatepark rail is unskateable from the left side

ps. put a wall ride bit in it, everybody loves wallrides

Appreciate the comments , everyone.

We have no hidden adgendas, only to make sure that the Park at Helensburgh is money well spent and at the end of the day good to skate.

The action group is made up of a group of lacal skaters. We approached council with the aim of pesuading them to engage experienced skatepark designers to design and build the park with input from the community. However there was no money to do the design this financial year.

The current concept has been developed by the action group (skaters- but not designers) with input from council. Thats why we need your input.

I spoke to Steve from Council today and he indicated that they may seek to have the detailed design and construction done by experienced skatepark design/construct contractors. This would be the best outcome.

If you are from the area write to Steve Maidment at Wollongong City Council and provide him with your thoughts. I also will be forwarding him, all the responses on this forum so keep up the input.

Thanks for your help.

the park looks good. could be a little better. cant tell how good it going to be from the designs. if the trannys are shit, and the rails and ledges are made wrong than it could be a waste of money. look at gerringgong skate park. it had a decent design but ended up being a total waste of money. if its going to work there needs to be a meeting with all the skaters in the area to advise the councill on what to do.

just make sure you use an experienced skate park builder and stay away from the driveway concreters or in gerringongs case the council womans, sister-in-laws, cousins, son.

Anyone have any new information? This park was last spoken about at the start of this year...

I tried the parks' website posted on the first page of this thread and it doesn't seem to work.
