Cheers Albert that pool sesh is sick! He reminds of Danforth with that mong push!

Albert. 20:10 02/Jul/06

Danforth was his hero. He would love to tell his story about meeting and skating with Danforth and thinking he had found his long lost brother, and how much Danforth destroyed the coping.

So sad to hear.Ken was truly one of the raddest.I remember he always had that mischevious look in his eyes,if you did'nt know he was a skater you'd think he was a maniac. So keen to skate,Like a kid in a candy store.Ken took me to my first pool, one night on the Goldie, during a party at matt mumford's.Shortly before midnight he emerged from the crowd and said"I know where there's a pool,do you wanna go?" So in the kombi we went.About 15 minutes drive. When we got there Ken says,"you go round that way,I'll meet ya round the back" Half way round the back lights come on,I thought we were busted, out of the back door comes Kenny grinnin' like a shot fox.He was king man. From Team Bowl Scraper and all of the Wollongong Wheels,we love ya Ken,may your soul skate forever and your body rest in peace.

Ken Gibbons often hung in Newcastle and was good mates with many of us here . People like Johnny Bogaerts (Bonzer team mate) , Macca and Anthony Simmons will be saddened by this news.
I remember at one time he did his ankle, got surgery, skated too soon, stitches burst open, gaping wound, just kept skating. High energy dude.... at rest now.

Geez.. Where do I begin? I feel no emotion at all. I'm so consumed by hate these days that I can't even cry for my lost friends.

My brother from a diffferent mother Josh Lovell called me tonight to give me the news, and I felt so bad because I just didn't feel anything. I was lost for words and didn't know what to say to comfort either of us. Maybe it was shock. I'm sorry Josh, I wish I was there with you now man. Ok.. Now that I'm writing this I feel the fluid comin.

It has been such a long time since I first met Ken that I can't even remember when it was. Maybe some time around 1982-83. Ken, Mark and the nulla crew used to come up to Five Dock for regular night sessions. I think it was a very young Dave Evo. I met Hoffy and the Higham brothers Mick and Steve through Gibbo too.

Ken was always amazing when he skated. Rather than waffle on about just how good he was, I'll just say that he was the only skater who has ever done a corner air over the narrow channel in Five Dock bowl. Seeing him do it blew my tiny little mind.

I remember once he drove all the way up to the Dock to pick me up and take me to a quarter that they built between two factories in Kareela (back down near Sutho). haha.. It was soo stuffy in the back of his Escort panel van with a whole crew.

So we get to the spot, and this quarter is huge. I think Ken said it was 16 foot, or something ridiculous like that. It was about 12 foot wide and had tyres or something on the sides near the brick walls in case you slammed. The gnarliest thing was the deck width platform with a 20 or 30 foot drop over the back onto steel barrels. Ken got me to climb up there and drop in. Fuckin Hell it was scary!

I'm sad that I only saw you once in the last 15 years Ken. And more so because I'll never get to skate with you like we used to and shake your hand and spark up.

I'll see you for the rebate mate!

Whoa... Saw this on the news last night and was talking about it, but for it to be someone I know changes it all...

Here's another golden Ken moment:

We were up in Toowoomba on a Kwala mission, running a comp and demo etc. Ken killed it all day with the best air and boneless variations ever! Afterwards we drove out into the country to his house where he had a dirt board track in his huge back yard, we all skated, ate shit and had a great time. He also had a whole room of his house dedicated to one of the best slot car sets I've ever seen... the car took forever just to do a lap! Ken showed us his old pics and his old pro model ( he never even had an OG of his own board!). He fed us all and we headed back to Brissy stoked on Ken and vowing to return as soon as possible.

Thanks for being a gracious host, an amazing skater and an all around great guy Ken. You'll be missed but not forgotten.

R.I.P. Ken
