> LENS REPAIR
Copped a nasty hit to the lens on Saturday.
I've contacted a few places around the country already inquiring about lens repair services...
Just wondering if anyone here has had any lens work/repairs done before? If so whereabouts and how’d you go?
Cheers

this is where all our work stuff gets fixed, i snapped a lens clean in half and they still fixed it. they must be good, not sure about the price though man
how much are those jazzy things these days?
i reckon i saw them around $4000 when they first came about
Worst case scenario it's gonna cost you $1000 for new glass replaced from century. Otherwise there's a bunch of waves tales I'm sure you can google for that may help reduce how bad it appears by thinking around the scratch a bit (including banana peels & tooth paste etc).
I reckon if you found the right watch repairer they might give it a go on their glass polisher, if you get to the point where you've got nothing to lose. I've tried a couple in the past when trying to deal with scratched Lenses but none were game.
I can't help you fix your fisheye, but incase you don't know, you can hide them pretty well if you keep your exposure at around F4 (use your ND filters)
I've got a fairly scratched MK1 and in about 70% of my clips you can't notice them.
so yeah give that a try and if it doesn't work you don't really lose anything haha
Cheers all for the comments...

Unfortunately they were one of the first ones I contacted, they and a few others have all replied saying "no sorry, we cant repair that make" so looks like I may have to send it overseas. Still waiting to hear back from Century...
Justin.
Yeah when we got it like 3+ years ago, it was just under the 4K mark...
Cameron.
Yeah been reading into DIY lens fixes, some of them got me thinking but I just don't think I got the balls to rub toothpaste on to my glass and fuck it further... Hadn't even thought about a watch repairer! Dude you're a fucking genius! Might take it to one and see how confident they'd be at buffing it...
Im Jake.
Also a genius! No I wasn't aware of this, eager to try it out. See how well it does effect the appearance of it in footage. Word, I got nothing to loose ahah
id suggest posting it on ebay and say "minor scratch but does not appear in footage", seems to work for everyone else with trashed lenses.
if all else fails.. get a vx1mk1 :-)
Nah but I looked into the costs thoroughly when I was considering purchasing one, back in my 'video days'
Off memory Centruy quoted me $1000 for a brand new front element fitted.
Ahah Shutdown, I might just hold on to it for b-roll or throwies ;)
No dramas, was just curious to how you came to that figure. Cheers again Cameron
