(Photos & Interview - Gourlay)

Hi Alex firstly so we can get a bit of a background on you, where were you born?

I was born at home in Perth on my mothers couch nice and natural. I have 2 sisters and a half brother and sister, my mother is a homebirth midwife and my father is a landscaper. I am a landscaper/skateboarder/father.

How old are you?

21 years old

You're pretty young to be a Dad, how many kids do you have?

I have 2 boys called Oliver and our new addition Rylie. Oliver is the oldest he's 3 n a half years old and Rylie our youngest is 2 weeks old. I am a young dad but I think I do a pretty dam good job at it well I think I do, you will have to ask my boys.

Do you enjoy fatherhood?

Yea I love it, it has really shown me what love and happiness is all about.

What makes you think you're a good Dad?

My partner is always telling me that I am a great father and all of my family back me up too I guess. I have so much support.

I understand you're a Dad for the 2nd time now, congrats! What does that feel like?

Thanks yea it is amazing I never thought I would be having kids at such a young age I believe that everything happens for a reason. Now that my new boy is born I can see how much I have achieved with Oliver like I helped him crawl, walk, talk, eat go to the toilet, catch a ball just all these little things that u don't really think of that much until you have another child and you have to do it all again.

50 to drop - Gourlay Are you planning on more little kickflippers?

No I think 2 boys will keep me out of trouble but my partner wants to have another baby in years to come so I guess you never know. Girls make u change your mind sometimes but will try and keep it at 2.

Do you enjoy fatherhood?

Yea I love it, it has really shown me what love and happiness is all about, plus it can bring family members closer together it is an amazing feeling and wouldn't change it for anything, I am very grateful for it.

So how do you support the family are you working at the moment?

I work with my dad doing landscaping my dad has been doing landscaping for 35years so he knows his stuff, We do work for a designer so she gives us the plans then we bring it to life we have done some award winning jobs. We are always doing different things so I guess that is why I like doing it so much.

What type of landscaping is in domestic garden stuff or commercial? It must be bloody hard work, how do you find the energy to skate and be a Dad after working you arse off?

I am not sure I am waiting for it all to catch up with me. No it is really hard coming home from work doing a 9-hour shift and then playing games with my kids it does get really hard but I make it work. Oliver always gets me up of the couch to go play a game or go to the park or clean the car but I love it. With skating I always have so much energy like when it comes to the weekend I just want to put together a new board and go for a roll.

How long have you been doing this? for about

5years.

Lets get down to it, when did you first step on a skateboard?

My father used to take me on his skateboard when I was a baby, but when I really started was when I was like 10.

Does your Dad still skate?

He is getting back into it now I just got him a set-up a few days ago and he loves it

front tail to fakes Gourlay Is he following what you get up to in the mags etc?

Yea my dad and my mum have all the mags that I have been in. My mum calls up the newsagent to see if I am in them, the guy from the news agent knows me and my mum really well so he is always keeping an eye out for me in the mags.

How often do you get to skate?

I skate on the weekend and when I have days off I go for skate too.

Tell me a story about Potter?

I think he is going to get a poon tattoo on his leg.

What's the roughest thing you've seen when you have been on a skate trip?

Last time I went to Melbourne I went on a little trip with Midds, I have never seen someone get so hurt I think the second day I was there we were at pran skatepark and I was setting up some wheels and Midds was flying around the park then he went for a 5050 on the quarter and as he was coming down his wheel fell off but he tried to ride it out but he hit that concrete hard. Then later that day me and yuta were trying some lines first yuta got wheel bite and the board went straight into Midds leg, then I tried my line and my board flung and hit Midds on his arm and shoulder so yea Christopher Middlebrook is one tuff cookie.

If your son ends up with a crap kickflip are you going to be bummed at him?

Ha yea man I will be bummed nah not at all.

If you won $100,000 what would you do with it?

Probably be really responsible and try and buy a house, I cant really say anything cool.

If you won $10 what would you do with it?

buy nappies or baby wipes, well probably not nappies there really expensive these days.

Jeez my response would have been buy 2 longnecks! You are responsible huh?

Yea I try my best to be responsible I have to be a good role model for my kids.

Do you see yourself always living in Perth?

Yea I don't think I could ever leave here its been my home for 21 years.

Why's that are you scared or something?

No I just like it here its not to busy and all my family are here plus my partner would never move.

front board - Gourlay Do you own BBQ?

No I just use my partner's mums we keep taking it and take forever to give it back.

I think you should ask your Dad if you can do some overtime so you can buy your own Barbie, so what brand of barbie would you buy if you could?

Maybe do some research on this one as its MOST important your happy with your purchase. I have heard the old beef eater is a pretty good buy so I think I am going to get one of them.

So you ride for Modus, Four and Nike, is there any other sponsors that help you out?

Yea momentumskateshop thay have helped me since day one and picturewheels thay have helped me to.

Would you ever play Brett Margaritis at SKATE in thongs?

Fuck yea I will try and do it when he gets back and put it on the 4website.

Finally, do you want to thank anyone or tell anyone to piss off?

I would like to thank all my sponsors and all my friends and my family. peace and love to everyone.

props here........
