RE: BackyardsLooks steep / tight as!!

Just been building on my holidays, but with Brisbane rain, this is still sitting in the garage until it gets placed and surfaced, etc.

After skating The Stoke bowl during the last month, I decided to make my own version (halfpipe / spine only that is) but with similar transitions and height.

Now just wait for a week or two of dry weather...

RE: Backyardsi want to re invent my local half court basketball concrete slab.

I have an idea of getting two road barriers and creating a half pipe of some some sort. getting them nice and smooth. I figure i will need a dick load of concrete.

I would be looking at getting two lower barriers so I don't need as much concrete.

Maybe even trying to set in some coping.

Any suggestions/criticism?

And can anyone give me the measurements of the alex heads mini.

I would love to replicate that.

mark that transition looks perfect. no center support for slats?

NTSC that's so rad! Looks better than my local skatepark haha.

Alex head mini is about mid thigh high, or maybe 3ft
Sswit2 Mar 2011
3 ft yeah that seems about right.

what about the distance between coping from quarter to quarter?
Ggeebz2 Mar 2011
its smaller than 3ft.
Ggeebz2 Mar 2011
actually it probably is 3ft just feels tiny.

some footage of alex heads mini here.

just remember to bash the coping with a hammer for complete replication.

only the novelty of that^^ and how awesome that song is, made the absolutely heinous filming remotely bearable

RE: Backyardscaveman - it is 2400 wide so it fits the ply sheets well, and I have some more 15mm ply to cut and make a mid support transition curve if needed, but I used more slats very close together to get a way stronger surface to ride on, or hopefully that is the plan.

I was also going to put in some vertical uprights in the mid line in a couple of areas as well, especially in the middle of the coping / platform area where it would take the most weight.

Still waiting for a bit of time and a good couple of fine days to get it done.

This is another pic of it - spine sections just waiting to get more timber, with a small piece of ply to see how it feels for transition.

looks pretty dope, some more grinding room would be nice though..
MMark Brimson4 Mar 2011
If it was staying in the garage, it would be as wide as I could make it, but as it has to go down the side of the house, that is the widest it could be.

Another weekend here with rain...

Might have a whole week off to get it done in April though.
