Wilbur Smith makes me angry. I still read his books though. He doesn't make me as angry as that cunt Matthew Reilly. I don't mind a bit of exaggeration in writing but I feel like throwing his books at homeless people after I read them.

Currently re-reading Stephen King's "Desperation". Awesome book.

i like real stuff about crime and shit i just finnished this good fucking read

If you like true crime you should read some David Simon. He released 2 books in the 90s before making the wire. Really good books about life in the baltimore ghetto.

Im about 1/4 the way through Feist's Prince of the Blood.

Im loving feist's novels. I reakon the riftwar series was much better than the lord of the rings. I guess feist "borrowed" heavily from toilkens stuff but at least he ditched all the crappy songs and elf talk.
Bbondiboy6611 Feb 2010
Yeah he borrows heavily from Lord of The Rings and roleplaying games like D+D. But he doesn't fill the stories with bucketloads of historic waffle like Tolkien did.

Another fantasy author who virtually created the genre is Fritz Leiber. His stories about Fafrhd and The Grey Mouser are classics, you can see his influence in shitloads of later fantasy stories.

Ggeebz11 Feb 2010
Haha, I think you will actually find that its John and not James. Nerd club membership offically suspended.

The hobbit was good, lord of the rings and his other stuff is painful.

Bump.

So i'm after a new book/series to read.
Whilst I normally read Fantasy and such, I also enjoy a good Stephen King/Dan Brown (Criticize if you want, I don't mind his books)/John Grisham.
Also anything partly psychotic like Chuck Palahnuiks type of stuff is good to.

I've read the Wheel of Time series (12 books, each 700-1000+ pages) by Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson over 20 times. Sadly not joking.

just finished reading a novel called 'the outsider'.

It's quite short but i really enjoyed its simplicity / detail ratio

It's by a guy who goes by the name of Albert Camus who is a 19th (i think ) century author who is considered to influence alot of contemporary writing today.

I also enjoy the fact that I can read heaps more cause of the long travel to uni-jerk-sity

I know the movie looks like shit, but I suggest the Scott Pilgrim comic series if that's your style.

I downloaded them a while back, and really quite enjoy them. Read them through a couple of times.

Also, I read a little bit of mangas and what not. Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist.

But books wise, if you like assassins/magical ninjas go for "The way of the shadows" trilogy by Brent Weeks. That series was a really good read.
