'an hero' is actually grammatically correct - you use 'an' instead of 'a' when the noun is spelled with an 'h'.'
no 'an' is only used with the following word beginning with 'h' is not pronounced. eg. hour. Fucking idiot.

therealmoopie - go check the grammar books sunshine. You'll find that I am, in fact, correct. You obviously weren't listening in English classes. It may be that the use you describe has become commonplace - but its not correct English in the strictest sense. Fucking idiot.
^^^ actually if you read any grammar books it comes down to the pronunciation of the word bondiboy66 but what ever
well, to be more blunt, "an" is only used with there is a vowel, or when the following word starts with a SILENT "h"
so "hour" doesn't need "an" beforehand
whereas "an hero" would be incorrect, because "hero" starts with an audible "h" sound.
but no need for name calling

Nah, the convention you're thinking of only applies to h words which are 3 or more syllables. Technically both a and an are acceptable for these words. However a is used far more. Other than that it's if it starts with a vowel sound.

as far as the "a" and "h" thing
if in all the mainstream media channels news things they use "an" in front of a word like "heroic"... i'd believe them over some chump off this forum. not to say the news is always correct, but just to say they wouldn't be speakin some wack ass pig latin shit.
i'll check it out with my mate who studies linguistics, he'll settle this score. check back by tomorrow arv for the results

My answer on the prior page is correct.
Ummm... No it isn't. Even by your own logic you are wrong. Hour and our sound exactly the same, hence the h is silent in hour. So it is an hour rather than a hour. That just sounds stupid, anyway.

The point of the term "An hero" is to create internet arguments like this that have been going around since it was first coined on some un-name-able infamous site. You all got trolled hard by each other and by some basement dweller that thought this up in the first place.
