Tragic news... RIP
LEWIS MARNELL RIP
My first meeting with Lewis was at one of the Globe World Cups. We'd been at some Alley Way Art thing with free beer, so when that finished we stumbled back to the City Park. Lewis was there skating and was of course ripping. He was kind enough to do pretty much every trick us drunken idiots requested over the hip (most of them first go). He was instantly a legend in my eyes.
Rest in Peace Lewis, we'll miss you mate.
Here's a rad clip of Lewis' skating by Manolo (king of the skate mixtape)

There's been hundreds of awesome Lewis memories replaying through my mind over the last week, but one in particular keeps popping up, so I thought I'd share it....
It was a usual Friday at Prahran skatepark a few years back and we'd decided to celebrate our Season opener IGDD (International Good Dude Day) by having a Over 30's high ollie comp.
All of us older guys struggled for a bit and eventually somebody managed to clear 32 inches- (it was either Troy O'Mahoney and Boz, I can't remember)
Lewis was casually sitting on the wooden bench,as he often did, setting up a new board and watching the the session.
Anyway, with the comp over, Lewis asked me if he could have a go in the contest. Initially, I said no, because he was too young (not 30 yrs old +) and then jokingly added that he could only enter if he skated switch...
so, without even so much as a warm up ollie on his new board, he jumped up, pushed towards the high ollie bar that we had set up and casually popped the cleanest, flat ground, switch ollie that I have ever seen, clearing the bar by a good 8 inches....he turned, and threw all of us older guys a cheeky Lewis grin, then rolled into the park on his new set up and proceeded to destroy the park.

I am told that there will be a memorial event for Lewis this week. Any details yet?
We already have a national 'Shred for Shane' day. We should have a 'Love for Lewis' day too.
The Melbourne venue should be Prahran. Lewi was a local and he always helped the housing commission kids with free boards and shoes.

Omar Salazar filmed a great vid from the session at Prahran skatepark following Lewis' funeral. Featuring the amazing Tommy Fynn , Marty Girotto, MVP of the day Harry Clark, Pascal Leniston, Vaughan Marks, a lot of others and myself. Will post it soon.... Such a special day.
Let's make 'Live for Lewis' an annual event nationally. It could raise funds for a charity chosen by Lewis' family. We'll miss him.

amazing^ made me smile heaps at the end. he would have been a great dad
skaters should brainstorm a name for a tribute day and skate ession for him, relative to the shred 4 shane day.
