Mark Brimson19 July 2011And from going down to the Gold Coast the other day for a roll at a few parks, I stopped in to the two Darkside shops and a couple of other places to buy a few things too.
For just over $200, I got a Real deck, a Spitfire Raglan tee and two Thrasher tees (Globe shop has a 50% off sale on clothing at the moment).
Gotta search for the bargains and the right places to buy things, then get the good deals.
Always something good in Darkside shops though.
I
i wear moccos19 July 2011^^Mark Brimson, do you just have a room full of product that you never ever use?! You seem to buy a lot of stuff in ridiculous quantities!
A
albatron19 July 2011"To me that is a way better deal than anything else, even if it costs a little more than it might from overseas, but I don't think it would really be that much."
I could get the same from the US for easily less than $200 to my door...
Also id like to add to the online debate.
To the average* buyer is there enough in buying a product lets say, from say this sites store or ccs or where ever, in justifying say a $100 saving, just for the piece of mind that your helping out an Aussie store you've never been too? Because really if you dont know the person, whats the difference if your package gets to your door by UPS or Aus Post...
M
Mark Brimson19 July 2011...maybe...
But really I do use a good deal of it myself, and over the years I have run a lot of comps, events and other things for various Councils, Youth Groups, private organisations that I get paid for, so at the events I give some away to people who need it or prizes for comps.
I also look after a lot of kids / crew I know who are ripping and would never get hooked up...
You may or may not have read other threads about it, which go into great detail, but it is not really worth bringing up again here.
I do like the chase and find of a good bargain, that's for sure.
I
i wear moccos20 July 2011^^Ah yep, I do remember reading something along those lines.
I do understand the appeal with chasing and finding a bargain though! Feels good! (Consumerism at its greatest!)

reesm8bigproblems20 July 2011^ good points.
the way i see it is that being young at school and living off my
parents,if there is a saving of any sort to be had i'm going to take
that option.
with sites like ccs, cutting down hundreds of dollars from what retail
price would be, why would you want to put that extra money out if
you don't have to? if i had a full time job i guess it wouldn't bother me
as much forking out the retail price for product.
i'm aware this is a big problem for australian stores
but if a much cheaper option is there how can you not take it
M
Mark Brimson21 July 2011Sorry for trying to support the local scene.
Sorry for knowing who actually owns the shop, as well as who owns the distribution company they come through.
Lastly sorry for hoping someone else would be interested in giving a shit about it.
Time to go do something worthwhile today...
Hey Mark
Nah, not alot of profit in that but its all good. Gotta do what you gotta do to compete I guess. I did get some of that stuff on sale so i could pass on the discount there.

Bombzigty.27 July 2011I was thinking about this last night, I live 4 doors down from my local corner store that stocks everything I would need on my grocery list but still shop at woolworths which is 3 blocks away - why? because you get more for your dollar. I'm sure all shop owners do the same and can understand there isnt much that can be done.
DDeath By Binary27 July 2011Poor BNE! You had a mad rant but you haven't said what distributors do, exactly.
Having to pay duty, GST and freight costs - what an absolute logistical nightmare!!! I don't know how you manage!
You sent out decks to 20 skaters, all of which will not advertise your products, get photos or footy for you or maybe even work full-time for one of the companies you distribute in the future right?
Yea, didn't think so. You are such a philanthropist!
Also, Darkstar loyalty scheme - LMFAO!!!!

so instead of walking 4 doors down to help out a local store owner who is probably struggling to pay the bills, you walk 4 blocks to cough your money up to one of the worst corporations in the world? to save 5 bucks?
B
Bombzigty.27 July 2011Your right I should be paying $80 groceries a week instead of the $40 I now pay, why didnt I think of this earlier.
B
Bombzigty.27 July 2011less walking also, bonus.
DDeath By Binary27 July 2011I find it hilarious that people pick and choose which companies are "the evilest in the world".
You don't shop at Coles but I bet you still drink Coca Cola, eat MickyDs & MiGoreng and buy electronic goods from asian companies that rely on slave-labour to keep their costs down.
B
Bombzigty.27 July 2011I'd bet $40 dollars 85% of the people in this thread are rocking NIKE's but I have to put that towards next weeks groceries.
I've been getting bread/milk/juice/butter/veggies etc delivered from Aussie Farmers direct. It's pretty rad
I
i wear moccos27 July 2011I'm going to America again in November to take full advantage of this dollar, see a country I love and also get a break from work. I am excited.

i noticed BNE was getting butt hurt about boardshop cutting out the distro and ordering direct.
if this is a cheaper way to order stock then why bother with distro's. Why are retailers paying someone to double handle stock and at the same time struggling to stay afloat.
