Drewsie19 Sept 2010skateboarding is ridiculous but the whole thing comes off super corny
V
Vande19 Sept 2010its pretty enjoyable watch. they really need to get rid of dydrek and berra commentating though i think rob talked about consistency in that first section every time a skater did a trick.

skateboarding is ridiculous but the whole thing comes off super corny
this.
i can't help think it will get boring with more than likely the same top 7 each time doing the same tricks....
T
TANGWU19 Sept 2010its good to watch and i'd much rather it than watching other sport but james yo is right it will end up being the same people and the same tricks.
L
LeoT19 Sept 2010that was better than expected for sure. i watched all 4 parts
F
FletchLord.19 Sept 2010i thought i was going to hate this, but i actually like it a fair bit
B
BNE19 Sept 2010Yeah, I'm a fan of it for sure. Better to have Dyrdek and Berra commentating that some extremo fag.
I think they're changing the course up for each stop so hopefully that will vary the tricks a little.
Coverage goes up on the ESPN site after they show it on TV over there, so I'm guessing the next stop will be up in a week or so.
I'm into it.

shutdown19 Sept 2010This shit is fucking sweet. Best comp format by far. Finally dusty old jealous judges with anti-hard-ons for young rippers cant just fudge the numbers to keep the true winners down.
I find it amusing that ppl can still hate on shit like this. Hateboarders for life.
I agree, Rob Schneider does a great job at commentating.
I can see why some people will like it. I personally can't see myself becoming a big fan. All those dudes are pretty similar kinds of skateboarders. I guess that's why they have been chosen. You can only really judge similar kinds of dudes in that structured way. I'd like to see skateboarders like busenitz, pfanner, taylor, westgate but they don't really work on a do your best flip in out on obstacle #27 type of comp.
S
Steele19 Sept 2010Regardless what you think of the format or the commentating... it's no joke how consistent those guys are... so sick.
S
silent bob20 Sept 2010Remember when Berra made his own skate spots in DVS's Skate More? Some were hating on it but shortly after The Berrics blew up the concept to a skateboarding studio and now we all love it. I think its the same deal with Street League. Its new, mainstream, jock, but at the end of the day its still skateboarding and over time it will become the norm.

shutdown20 Sept 2010for me its the best 'sport' format so far. So good watching the strategies and calculations taking place. I was sitting there going 'come on nyjah, you can biggie front board or kicky back smith that piece rail and take these suckers out.
I still think that a busenitz or similar 'unique' skater could do well in this format. Busenitz could have scored big time on the creativity section at the very least. This format rewards versatile skating, the sad truth of the matter is, the elite skateboarders are good at everything and are super consistent, the 'unique' skaters are only good at some stuff and arent always very consistent. While it is interesting to watch a chris haslam at one of these events, you kinda feel sad for the guy because he is being so dominated by the next 15 year old prodigy.
End of day, comps are a part of skating like it or not, some skaters arent suited to comps. As far as the 'sport' of skateboarding goes, this format is the best. Personally I prefer it to the maloof huckfest where every second trick is a bail and the judges get to choose who wins based on how current their hair-style is.
Bails look terrible and are the reason skateboarding would never be taken seriously as a 'sport'. This format discourages random hucks of luck but doesnt stifle it as much as say a tampa competition run. It appears to have been very cleverly thought out imo.
It's kinda like watching a game of football.. Some teams are boring and consistent, others try razzle dazzle stuff and it either pays off or bombs, you have your live scores so you can predict what kind of things ppl are going to do, and you can appreciate when they do something ballsy when not necessary.
So glad Malto didn't win tho. If he had that would have been coffin time for the entire 'street league'... They may as well call it street nosegrind warriors..
T
TANGWU20 Sept 2010I didn't realize they were changing the course each stop. Im definitely gonna keep watching.
J
Jackie Chiles20 Sept 2010yeah i liked it a lot. it kinda did feel like watching any other sport that espn would broadcast though. but hey, just another enjoyable thing to watch on tv/interenet, skaters are making money for themselves and its probably the least corny representation of skating in the major media so i say, whats not to like
P
prima20 Sept 2010so nugget is 70 grand richer lol fuuck
J
Jejenhausen20 Sept 2010did anyone else dislike prod as much as i did after that?
J
Jejenhausen20 Sept 2010that and i think the no points for no land is a bit rough, i reckon you should get two tries at a trick, and only get half points if you land it second time, that way you'll get some crazier stuff and hopefully some different skaters in the finals
B
BNE20 Sept 2010PROD has definitely got some full on OCD going that's for sure!
D
DisinteresTed20 Sept 2010if i hadn't of watched it, id be hating, non stop no doubt.
buuuuttttt...
people like to compete, and this is it, big game format all in risk's ect ect, it's worth a look, not everyones cup of tea but i kinda like it.
