However what i dont understand is why didn't they just take Optimus to the Junkions on Planet Junkion and get him repaired like they did with Ultra Magnus after he was exploded into pieces whilst battling Megatron over control of the Matrix of Leadership.

valid point sliders, that is possibly one of the most gangster scenes in any movie ever, expecially when he transforms and does the flip over the top of them whilst blastin.

BUT Optimuses death occurs halfway through the series. therefore there is an opportunity for %50 more awesomeness from prime, but its never seen becuase he dies
