since the start of the new hospital i was 99% certain at some point they would demolish the park to make way for something else..

and i was right.

city park will go to make way for the hospital extension announced today.

We rang the council last week when they started putting fencing up around the park/convention centre to start the new paving and they said they had no plans as of yet... but obviously not true, word on the street is that the new city park is gonna be in the new parklands opposite the ice arena but thats not confirmed. Walker has been in touch with the council and told them we (the skaters) want to be consulted in the design process of the new park but im not sure if he's heard much back.

Also next Saturday the 22nd of June were gonna run some stuff for Go Skateboarding Day. There will be pizza in Daily Grind in Hindley St at 12.30 pm followed at 1 pm by a best trick comp at citypark on the A-frame with prizes from DC and Miasma for best goofy and regular trick and best overall park ripper on the day. Come down and help celebrate what might be the last GSD at city park! Ill be making a facebook page/flyer sometime today but help spread the word!

unless businesses like dailys, elan, miasma, mv2 etc get onto the council and have a petition the process of a replacement park will be slow or probably non existent.. a new skatepark for the council is guaranteed to be at the bottom of the list of things to do. they would replace the shitty volleyball courts before theyd replace city park.

unless a plan is released in the near future now the development is basically confirmed and funded by the fed goverment id say a petition to get a plan written up and signed off on to replace city park is the go.

Heres the flyer for Go Skateboarding Day next week. Ill do my best to have a petition form regarding construction of a new skatepark before they knock down the old one or at least get the design process started asap. Im sure it should be pretty easy to get all the brands on board in regards to building a new park before demo begins. I spoke to walker today about it and he said that the people he has been communicating with at the council haven't gotten back to him but he was planning on hitting them up again soon. Hopefully we can get a good turn out on saturday, get everyone to sign the petition and get a bunch of photos with everyone at the park, the more the better! I know this is a bummer but if we are well organised and leave them no options hopefully we can end up with a shiny new osbornesque park in the city square before they even fence the old park off!

we need to make sure at the new one that they dont plant trees at the bottom of the lights

and it needs an ice machine. and heated benches.
