SKATEBOARDERS will gride, flip and learn from some of the state's best at a series of Northern clinics.
Skateboard Australia, with support from the Launceston and West Tamar councils, and retailer Jimmy's Skate and Street, will host the clinics that are designed to encourage and promote the sport to people from all walks of life.
``We have been doing the clinics in Hobart for the last couple of months and they were very successful,'' Jimmy's Skate and Street owner Jimmy McMacken said.
``This is the first one in the Launceston area this weekend.''
The clinics will cater to people at all skill levels and ages, from those wanting to learn the art of skateboarding to those interested in acquiring a series of tricks.
``If they have never skated before we teach them how to stand on the board, where their feet should be, how to push along on a skateboard, how to turn the skateboard and then if they are more advanced we can teach them tricks,'' Mr McMacken said.
``We supply helmets and skateboards so you don't even need to have your own equipment - we cater for everybody.''
For those interested in mentoring skateboarders, a coaching course will be held today at the Windsor Community Precinct, from noon to 4pm.
The skateboard clinics will be held tomorrow at the Beaconsfield Skatepark, with plenty of prizes to give away, and on Saturday, August 18, at Launceston's Royal Park site from 10am to noon.
