Erindale Brick Banks (Erindale Skatepark) is set to be demolished in the near future. This skate spot is unique, inconic and has a deep history in Australian Skateboarding. It's probably a good time to restart discussions around the proposed relocation of the skatepark and if it's worth fighting to keep the iconic banks where they are.
The ACT budget was handed down recently and in a media release it was stated "The suburb (Wanniassa) is set for a new supermarket with 7600 square metres of commercial land to be released at Erindale Shopping Centre."
This is in line with the Erindale Master Plan document released in 2012.
http://www.planning.act.gov.au/tools_resources/legislation_plans_registers/plans/master_plans/tuggeranong_and_erindale_centres_master_plansThe plan states "It is expected within 5-15 years of master plan endorsement that
Section 295 (the Government owned car park to the south of the
existing shopping centre) will have been released and developed as an extension to the shopping centre..."
With regards to the skatepark the plan says "...For the creation of
New Wynne Street, the skate park will need to be relocated to
the sports precinct to the west of Erindale..."
