Both options are very similar it looks like so it's hard to have a strong opinion. Option 2 having a bit more street in the mix but keeping lots of the same features ending up a little more cramped.
Bit too #unique for my liking.
Sydney skateboarders, you have a great opportunity here. I'm surprised you aren't being more engaged?
If this is the design approved by the locals who turned up to community meetings then all good.
But - if it's something that the designers have put forward as a first draft, I think there should be a Plaza style alternative - option 3. It's obvious what the new gen want to skate. Waterloo gets traffic from all areas of Sydney daily because it's what's relevant. Keeping in mind five dock and glebe mini are around the corner from this.
Option 1 came from the designers, and Option 2 was revised with input from a couple of locals with less emphasis on street elements.
Neither design is flawless, but the biggest problem is people not turning up to these meetings to throw in ideas.
I didn't make the last meeting but agree another 3rd plaza design is worth considering.
Are Sparx and the Sydney skateboard association in on this? A no bullshit plaza along the lines of waterloo is the way to go, not this "unique" Swedish shit that no one will care about in a few years. Timeless stuff like variety of ledges, rails, stairs etc with emphasis on good spacing and layout.......which seems to be the thing a lot of these artsy new design companies struggle with. There's always room for more/better design of that kind of stuff. As someone said already, it's what's relevant. we don't need a cram fest of expensive weird shit.
Couldn't agree more, you need the basics at every park with spacing to anticipate people standing around.
Every park needs some weird shit but anymore than 20% is just waiting money you could be spending on a perfect ledge and mini.

Just to clear a few things up........ This design is based upon the locals input. From the get go a majority of the people who will be using the park regularly called out certain features they wanted included in the design. Personally..... option two best addresses what the locals are wanting (as far as i know)
The SSA'S main focus is to help ensure that what the locals want is what gets delivered. Obviously that's easier said than done but one of the main reasons why we formed this group was to try and put an end to designs being signed off on that were never discussed with the local community.
The guys at ENLOCUS do a great job and are always extremely open to suggestions and changes. I encourage anyone interested in having input to complete the survey and provide their feedback.
Don'tevenliftbro - Believe me mate.....i want a street plaza more than anyone ! I suggested a plaza like design at the first meeting but the local community wanted a bit of variaty which is totally understandable. After all.... its going to be their park anyway. You can't please everyone with these things and we know that...... the hardest part is finding that common ground where everyone is (somewhat) satisfied.

There plenty of other things currently in the works for Sydney ! Johnstons Creek (Glebe) is next inline for something new. The space isn't too big but there is an option to make something pretty cool down there ! I'll keep you all in the loop.

Ok fair enough I suppose if that's what lots of locals at the meeting wanted. I have filled out the survey so I guess that's all I can do.
ENLOCUS are good, from a purely professional engineering/architectural standpoint as with convic etc but........and correct me if i'm wrong here......none of them actually really skate or skate street in particular, so while you may get your actual obstacles designed perfectly, you can often tell that the layout is lacking a skaters eye for approach angles and runup. Would've tried to go down that career path myself except I think i'd probably snap because these days it's as much about other user groups and landscape design as it is about skate function whilst passionate skaters just see it as money down the drain.
I can back up sparkes, this is what the locals wanted including some bmx influence.
I personally like to skate a bit of everything, so I don't mind something like this but you usually get problems when they're packed with kids.
street plazas usually work out the best because the lack of ramps deters scooters and tricycles
Anyways it's just a reminder these meetings need street skaters to attend

One of the designers at Enlocus skates......I know that for sure. Judging by that Nambour park they aren't doing a bad job so far.
