OP
Crookwell / Gunning NSW Skatepark? I'm a Canberra local that will be moving to a small town called Gunning later this year. I did a bit of digging around and found that they have a couple of sketchy ramps built from MDF (Potty, I'll email you the pics and address for the database). The Upper Lachlan Shire Council are looking to build a new facility in either Gunning or nearby Crookwell to replace it. I found a Facebook page run by a young local that appears to have got the ball rolling so I reached out to them to find out what the situation is. From what I've been told if the community can raise $6,000 of their own funds then the council will give them an $80,000 grant to build a new park. This place is probably going to be my new local and it's only a short drive from Canberra so it could be a good opportunity to get something fun built out there. I will be contacting the council to get more information but I wanted to post this here to see if anyone knows more about it? Does anybody else have an idea of what could be built with an 80k budget? Anything would be an improvement on what they've got already (see photo below) but I've seen so many small towns end up with bad parks because they choose pre-fab and/or hire inexperienced builders. I'll keep this thread updated with any details but if you know more or want to chime in with anything then please do!

Potty and I have been to a few parks in that area that were partly funded by chook raffles at the local pub, get onto that Woody. Or try the local Lions Club, they funded the first Belco mini ramp

I've skated Rezy. Rad park. My understanding is that most of the obstacles there were donated from the city though? The council want to have a chat with me in a few weeks so I'll update the thread when I know a bit more about what they have in mind.

RE: Crookwell / Gunning NSW Skatepark? Update:

I've since had to move back to Canberra however I've stayed in contact with the council.

Looks like they've gone ahead and made a decision on a design themselves. Nothing spectacular but definitely worth checking out on a day trip from CBR. This was the email I got along with park design:

"

Hi Brenden

The skate park community of Gunning met just before Christmas and the attached design was approved with the deepening of the bowl to 1.8 and a ramp access for lesser abilities.

This year we will be talking to the contractors to get the park in place before the new financial year.

Regards

Linus
