OP
pizzey problems making this thread to put out whats going on with the vert ramp (or lack of) at Pizzey. im ripping alot of shit from Andrew Curries instagram and comments but wanted to post it anyway to give it its own section for discussion on parx so imput is appreciated. im not smart enough to keep the thread strong.

cuzza's insta if you want to read it all first hand - https://instagram.com/andrewcurrie/

after cuzza's post below received heaps of comments against a vert ramp Keegen Palmers dad Chris commented that he was funding moving the ramp from gc compound to pizzey and had decided to cancel the project. weather it was because of all the vert ramp hate i don't know but that would be a real shit.

Free vert ramp or nothing? And nothing was the choice? Weird

A world class privately funded vert ramp at no cost to council? Wow. It would be perfect to use as leverage for lobbying council to invest in a plaza.

What a shame. Props to Mr Palmer for his generosity. Hopefully the issue can be resolved

"street skaters raising their own money"...for a DIY STREET PLAZA??????

I'd really like to see that!

Question for those who do concrete work - how much would a slab for a basketball court cost?

Even something like that would cost a fair bit to start with, but once that was raised, then every other dude with $20 could help out with a couple of bags of concrete and get something happening on the slab.

Cheers for ruining it for everyone Currie. You're choice of vocabulary is so beautifully eloquent.. There's plenty of street spots..IN THE STREETS!

The issue with DIY is safety standards that the council would never approve of, and to be honest I don't blame them. I would hate to see some kid impaled on a dodgy pole jam. Cuzza is right to campaign for a proper street plaza and I hope it happens, but it seems a shame to throw away a free vert ramp just to make a point that people prefer street

A couple of key points to note (not biased cause I probably can't skate either well enough to contribute) are as follows:

1. The ramp would have been donated FREE but the maintenance (up to $10,000 a year) would have to be an ongoing cost paid for by Council.

2. The land or space in question is limited - again not really sure, given there is a lot of space to the north of the main park, which I would not think designated for anything else, but could be used or allocated to other sports (not just skateboarding) but would have been enough for the vert ramp and a street plaza. I am thinking this is all the space within the walking path that goes past the park up to the corner / toilets.

3. How much funding does the Gold Coast Council have to spend on something like this, as well as the possible issues with DIY as Fetus said above.

Brisbane City Council just came by Paddo and took out ALL the DIY structures, regardless of how safe they are, on the basis that they are not safe or checked by a safety person... (in itself a sad issue) but broken apart picnic benches or half made obstacles could prove more of an issue than a plain field of grass for their risk maintenance department.
