A few curious observations:
Everything resembles a Dylan Reider moment in time - clip, shoes, style, tricks, etc.
Shoes - very similar "non skating" looking shoes which are good for skating but also for other uses / being a cool dude as well.
Tricks - that frontside heelflip and an ollie up to frontside flip over the fence in particular - very Dylan.
Style - got that smooth clean style, rolled pants and tucked in shirts.
Maybe the two are on the same wavelength in style, tricks and everything else, and not to take away from him as a person as it was a rad clip, but just funny.
That said, I could watch some hesh bowl riders in 874s, dirty mesh cap, vans old skool doing frontside grinds and probably say the same thing about them.
Nice anyway.
what an animal, that was fucked, every trick popped so high
my favourite thing was the switch ollie up before that switch backside flip
Mark, your probably getting that feeling even more so because a majority of the tricks were filmed in Berlin at the same time when Dylan filmed his shoe release part for Huf.
yeah my first though was, skateboarding doesn't need another Dylan Rieder. Good part anyway, but the Dylan likeness made it feel like old footage
So good.
Dylan Rieder vs Kirsten Stewart
Saw better volcom wild in the parts from random aussies. Is there really money in this whole louis vuitton look? Sure chicks will prob get wet but what skate gear do they buy? (Genuine qn).. Id be keen to see these guys pay checks to find out if its worth stooging out for, but yeh i dont get it.
^ If you're not being a fan of the dudes fancy boy image thats cool but saying the skating itself in that clip is underwhelming is lunacy .You're the first dude to say people hating on nyjah or whoever are not judging the skating on it's own merits but you do the same thing. I know it's all subjective but with that much style and pop it seems crazy to hate on the guys skating.
I liked it.. the guy rips.
I respectfully agree, Mark. Austyn has his own flare that is completely unique, and in my opinion skates nothing like Dylan, They just wear matching singlets. I'm sure if he has a double xxl tee on that call would never have been made. This part is amazing, great watch!
haha shutdown, if that part were shortened to a minute it would win wild in the parts hands down. You might have seen random aussies skate big rails but that doesn't compare to this.
Such great skating with such lethally wanky outfits
Ali Boulala's first line in Really Sorry - Now that's an outfit worth talking about.
Austyn skating in The Skateboarders Uniform (Black Jeans and a White tee) isn't anything worth mentioning.
His rolled up pants reveal no more ankle than any given Antihero/DIY diehard wearing Dickies.
The only difference between when I grew up skating and what Austyn/Dylan etc are doing now is hair gel replacing black hair dye - They just look like a cleaner version of the Piss Drunx era
"They just look like a cleaner version of the Piss Drunx era" - Yeh but the Drunx threw down the hammers non stop and skated every section as if it was their last. These guys seem to cruise by on 70% mediocre tricks done with flare and a good hair flick with only a few mention-worthy enders and some HD lifestyle angles to get them across the line. Sure he's pleasant enough to watch and his style and pop makes up somewhat for the filler tricks others would consider side-b, but I sure as shit won't be hunting this part down in 2 years time to re-watch it the way I might the big ticket sections like Dollins Baker 3 part or even Stevie Williams Chocolate part. And yes I confess to watching Nyjahs fade to black part at least once every few months and Joslins plan-b part because I still can't believe two human beings can be that ridiculously good on a skateboard while putting so much on the line.
Speaking of Nyjah hate, you see he finally lost a street league? All it took was a course designed by Luan Olivera himself with no rails or stairs and quarter pipes at either end. And would have guessed, Luan wins the comp. Meanwhile Nyjah is boo'd on every run skating a course that was designed to fuck him up and he still only loses on the last trick by 1 point after he bails his last attempt.
<insert "shutdown is a skate jock tony horks retard who doesn't appreciate real skateboarding" hate here>
Well I quite liked the part.
I wouldn't call any of it mediocre, its all popped big and landed smooth.
I don't think a comparison to piss drunx is really valid, except that they are doing something ever so slightly different to the masses.
As long as he keeps up the good trick selection and the pop/smooth factor ill be a fan, it doesn't really make a difference if he's also into wearing nice clothes and looking pretty.
Similarities to Dylan are going to be mentioned, but if they're mates and are into the same shit then of course there's going to be some consistencies...
Personally I think i like Austyn a little more.. They both have a little (I wont say fake steez, but exaggerated steez maybe) style thing going on. Dylan's seems a lot more exaggerated to me and I don't care for it.
On the street league note..
Booing Nyjah is retarded. Cant argue that he's amazing and he's often doing new tricks too, not just the same ones over and over.. That said, judging skateboarding is hard. It's a very subjective thing. Chris Cole has done some tricks i thought were amazing and received low scores.
I do find it weird that Luan got to design a course and then he won there. Surely it's a pretty big advantage..
Why did he get to do that? Are other dudes helping out with the other courses?
It's sort of a cool idea, I'd like it if they got some random other non-competing pros in to help design.. they could film a park clip for it too?
Maybe PJ...? Footage please Mr Ladd..
