Menai is ok. There was a really nice family friendly Consolidated demo there in the 90's that only required one police escort out of the city limits.

Macquarie Fields has a bit of everything, but gets pretty busy. Weekends around Sydney are mostly the same everywhere - crowded with ruthless scooters who don't look where they're going.

I'd go as early as you can, like 7am if you are just learning - you'd probably have most parks to yourself at that time.

Check the map in the parks section - http://www.skateboard.com.au/v2/index.cfm?smithgrind=search

One of my favourite parks in Sydney is Lane Cove skatepark - even though it's prefab everything is pretty small and there's never anyone there. If you look hard enough there are probably similar parks in your area.

Have fun mate and remember that keeping your eye on where everyone else is going is as important as planning where you're going - best way to avoid collisions and getting injured!
