OP
I'm just starting to skate again after a pretty long break and I suck at just about everything except riding around. I'm used to skate park etiquette and I know not to practice in the center of the park or to sit on ledges. There's not much flat or smooth ground where I live except for the skate park, and there's no one around where I live to skate with. But I don't wanna go there and get in people's way or just stand in the corner and practice like an asshole. I Know Some guys at the parks are really nice and willing to help someone out, but I don't really wanna be that guy that sucks so bad people get guilt tripped into helping him. And I'm almost 16, so it's not like helping out a little kid. Thoughts? Should I just practice on my own until I'm a little more well rounded? Or would it be better to just put myself out there?

Just be cool about it - go to parks, watch the others and the lines they take more if it is crowded or a heated session from some rippers, roll around in between times and just get used to the park.

No one has to be good from go - just get used to it more than anything - push roll up the ramps / carve round rather than trying to roll in or drop in from the top if you are not confident.

Say "hi" to people and if they are cool / not kooks they will say hi back, then if they want to talk, all good.

Doesn't matter how old, how big, how small, how good or anything like that.

Real skateboarders will be down for anything - talking, helping, etc whatever but at the right time.

Mike V came out here a long time ago and said it best, when kids tried to rush him straight out of the van "Right now I am here to skate, we can talk or whatever later" and it was so true. He got his skate on for an hour or so and then spent twice that time talking to every kid at the park who wanted to say something to him or get something signed.

Same with everyone else - let people skate and then when they are done and sitting down talking or chilling, do the same.
