BELCO BOWL JAM 2016

The Longest Stalled invert category was up first. Matt Kitai, Ethan Copeland, Sam Giles, Noah Regan and George Richards all put down, but the real battle was between Belco Bowl Jam legend RJ Barbaro and OG Old Skool ruler Billy Harrison.

15-year-old Cory Juneau from the USA could have gone in the Juniors, but stole the show in the Opens instead. In this run he completed a gap to frontside lipslide looping back around for a gap to frontside Nosegrind. Nicely done!

Dudes were ripping! Cory also threw down a kickflip indy over the channel. Ethan Copeland went backside to rocknslide and Sam Giles won the Fisherman Skateboards 'Catch of the Day' with an Allyoop Judo - pretty sure that's a never been done, but I could be wrong!

As well as making a rad trophy, Modus also sent me a 10 foot air stick... it nearly wasn't high enough!

Local Canberran, young Ethan Copeland (can't recall if he's 10 or 11 years old now) was the first to put down an air. He went 7.5 feet!

RJ was defending champion, and came really close to taking it out at over 8 feet!! Not bad from someone fresh back from a knee reco!

It was crazy watching dudes come at you while you hold a stick. I had Jim Fowlie opposite me giving me the nod when I called the measurements. And in the end Cory Juneau flew a solid 9 feet to take it out. Highest Air in Belco ever. The crowd went mental.

True! It is a heelflip, my error! RJ cleaned up as always, so it was good to see Billy Harrison take home some well earned cash to spread the love around.

Maybe you should be on the 'judging panel' next year Flaz. You might not get paid like some of the other events though. Ha ha ha!

There are not many people in this county that actually do inverts, full weight on the arm looking straight down the vert, i know i don't do them properly it's just a hand turn and you can't stall them.
