Things aren't far off for this old girl, pleased to see they are keeping the original design but just giving her a facelift and some butt implants.

Barry Strachan has contributed more than any individual to skateboarding in the Illawarra. As long ago as 1987 Barry was lobbying for skateboarding facilities in the region. In the early 1990's he was a vital part of the Committee of young people that worked alongside Council officers to design the Fairy Meadow Skate Park. Wollongong City Council enjoyed international notoriety for this innovative and inclusive process that saw users actively and meaningfully involved in the design of their park. Barry was central to this process as a loud and authoritative voice for skateboarders. When Barry speaks, people listen. Barry was so committed to Fairy Meadow Skate park that he moved to the area, bought a house and raised a family in Fairy Meadow. His constant presence and positive example ensured that the space was respected and looked after by the skateboarding community. Barry ensured that all were welcome. If you skate at Fairy Meadow you know Barry. Barry then continued his involvement with further lobbying that led to skate facilities being developed at Unanderra and Berkeley. During the current revamp of Fairy Meadow, Barry along with his son Lenny have been working voluntarily in assisting the contracted company that are managing the revamp. He is doing this in his own time while holding down a job and continuing to lobby for more skateboarding facilities in the northern suburbs of the Illawarra. We believe that it is not only appropriate but extremely important that Barry's efforts, commitment and passion demonstrated over an almost 30 year period should be recognised. To that end we request that the new Vert Ramp at Fairy Meadow be named after Barry Strachan.
