Macken skating to big time

Raymond Macken has the USA in his Skateboarding sights
INWARD heels, backside heel flips and 360 degree flips are terms unfamiliar to most of us. It is however, a different case, when you sit down to talk to young Raymond Macken of Gerroa.
Macken lives and breathes skate boarding 24-7; he has a collection of skateboard decks from all over the world mounted on his wall.
He has featured in Australian skating magazine Slam and is part of the Kiama Crew, a group of around ten skaters aged between fifteen and twenty-one.
So whats all the fuss about you ask?
Where to start&Well he wins just about every skate competition he enters, ten out of his last twelve in fact. He has a sponsors list any professional athlete would be proud of or it could even be the fact that he is either travelling around Australia or overseas to compete.
Impressive, I mentioned young; the most interesting fact is he is a year 6 student at Gerringong Public School and still only 11 years of age.
Skilful enough though to land his first 360-degree flip last month and to recently win the Mens Open Sponsored division at the Riverina Skateboard Championships held at Leeton two weeks back.
Raymond is competing against skaters at least twice his age and regularly takes on the big guns and wins.
He has just returned from the Folklore Masters event in Melbourne, finishing fourth and beating the current Australian Skateboarder of the year along the way.
He speaks with a confidence beyond his years and is not daunted by his opposition or performing in front of large crowds.
I just try to be confident and try to win, I am sometimes nervous in big comps but just go out and skate he said
Raymond will head to the United States in September where he will be part of a skating DVD and will look to watch and possibly skate some competitions while he is over there.
He will go to Kiama High next year, and at a young age education remains top priority and his current School have been very understanding when it comes to the travel and hectic competition schedule.
We look forward to hearing about the continued rise of Raymond Macken, but right now he just wants to skate&and skate&and skate
