Tangent.. Skating has been in a recession for the last 2 or 3 years. It's just that skating is so big now that we don't notice it as much. Skating has always had an 8 year cycle, just like yo-yo's. The industry feels the pinch much sooner than the general skating community.

I'll see your Round the World with my Rock the cradle Laz.

tangent 16:53 11/Sep/08

yeah... i know what you're saying, of course its pretty obvious that we're in a skate recession.. but i think the hardest hasn't hit yet... and shopwise it'll be the shops that have the right intentions that will be able to stick around and support skating when everyone else doesn't find it profitable to do so... sucks that PSC is downsizing as they have been a pretty big part of the melb skate scene.. especially OG PSC...yo yo's... good stuff.. just saw guiness book of records on tv, some guy did like 30 different yo yo tricks in one minute!

Rodos 16:55 11/Sep/08

Sadly, i think its a combination of factors. The cost of running a business in Australia is very expensive, with rent, staff, promotion of your business etc leaving very little left, compared to the online stores which need none of these things.

In the long term skateboard shops will survive, but most likely in a different way. Lower rent areas instead of shopping centres will perhaps be the future, with a combination of less staff and less range of products.

Please remember when you buy a skateboard from anywhere other than a skateboard shop you are then taking the profit out of skateboarding and giving it to bikes or surfing, who in the long term like to take the money from us but certainly dont reinvest it in skateboarding.

maybe if the person who's in charge of choosing stock could actually pick good shit that skateboarders would want to buy, not heinous looking shit (refer to psc hornsby store)

If skating's getting bigger then how can it be in a recession...
