Mon - Sat: 9:30 am - 6:00 pm Sun: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Darkside Skateboards opened in Surfers Paradise in September 1997. The real beginning though was 20 years earlier though when two ten year old kids started skateboarding after school, everyday. Mark, who owns Darkside and Don, who runs our Miami store were those kids. All we cared about was skateboards, bikes and the beach. In a lifestyle lived worldwide in beach communities we enjoyed the surf and skateboarding, in a simpler time when all of this felt so new, before the commercial side of 'extreme sports' took it to a whole different level. There were only about 10 kids in our school who rode skateboards, and getting a new board was a huge deal. We saw the huge booms and the big busts. We forged friendships through skateboarding, learnt a lot about how not to do things, and always, in the back of my mind at least, knew just the kind of business I would operate if I were to do it myself, and not for someone else. Punk rock was the inspiration and the do it yourself philosophy of punk runs through my blood. It was just a matter of time that I would stop working in other peoples skateboard businesses and start running my own. Darkside started small, and every year has grown. This has only happened through the hard work of the staff and our shop team, whose loyalty has been amazing. There are no fat salaries, just people doing what they love, and getting the opportunity to be a part of skateboarding. When people move on they are still our friends, everyone can always share a good memory about being a part of it. Thanks to everyone that has supported Darkside and skateboarding over the years.
