Cortech Done?

Dudley Booger Dawson 10:53 02/Sep/08

Bummer if this is true. 95% of wheel companies these days just seem like wheel graphic companies to me. They just email graphics off to someone in china and then call themselves a wheel co but having no input or knowledge whatsoever into the actual science of creating a wheel. Cortech were one of the very few innovators out there. Anyone know where I can get a set of 54s?

Well, the cats outta the bag now. We (were) keeping it on the down-lo Cole. I thought I told you that.

Don't despair everyone, I'm sure Tim is not done yet. The main contributing factor in Tim closing down production (for now) is that over the last few years it has been increasingly difficult to find employees to work in the factory pouring and latheing wheels. For the last year or so of production Tim was doing a lot of the work himself, which took it's toll in the form of RSI. Hence the break. Tim is now taking time out to explore his other passion and hobby, which is 3d modelling and animation.

The knowledge behind OZI, Cockroach, Coretech isn't about to get sold off to the highest bidder, so you can expect to see wheels on the skateshop shelves some time in the future.

What does make production difficult for a small Australian manufacturer is the increasing cost of petro chemicals, and the peak exchange rate of the Aussie dollar. Unfortunately, no matter how good a wheel is, seppos wont buy em if they're almost double the price of a local or chinese wheel. Can you imagine them paying $70 for a set of Photons like we do? I think not. This creates the problem of no import dollars to bolster local production.

None of you can imagine the dismay I feel at the moment. This year marks my 25th anniversary riding for Tim and I can't get wheels for now. I have a lot of pride in riding Tims urethane, and kinda feel ashamed that I may have to resort to riding inferior wheels. Looks like I'll have the rummage through all my old wheels for now.

Anyway, lets hope for the future of Coretech and that Tim will go back into production some day soon.
