PSC downsize?

tpc_mark 15:13 12/Sep/08

Hey Leland,

I have also worked at PSC in the city and I have to disagree with you and Tangent.

We've always provided excellent customer service, its what we pride ourselves on. Maybe you came in when it was super busy and we couldn't get around to serving you or something... I'm not sure but whatever the case your comments are way off.

We have an amazing team who support the store also.. Who else can claim a team including dollin, duncombe and mumford to name a few?

Along with catering to anyone who walks into the store we also run premieres, skate days, cool comps and giveaways.

So lets chill on the hate. We dont vibe people out and we dont discriminate.

So your customers are liars?

I'll never go to a chain store again. Last time I did, I asked for a set of bones bearings and got told "we only stock good product here".

Yeh every time i go down to Melb i go into PSC to scope their product and everyone in their is always pleasant and down to chat. I dig that vibe they dont pressure you into buying stuff you know, its chill. I dig PSC trust me there are far more worse places in Newcastle. There is one shop that is not overpriced and is owned by a skateboarder (Hunter Valley Skateshop)...pretty sad how alot of shops these days have no clue and just jump on the Shop bandwagon because when they walk down the street there is 50 or so skaters and they think wow what a business oppurtunity im going to jump on this.

justchillin 15:30 12/Sep/08

ive never gotten anything but respect from all the lads at darkside and old mate that runs concrete lines is always keen for a chat even stoping me at the servo to ask how my daughter is doing. attitudes are like arseholes everyones got one some people keep theres in check some dont. i recently went back to sydney to see my family while i was there i went to psc at penrith and a few things stuck out to me first and foremost was the amount of absolute crap on sale to cater to the metro meathead jock scum and the heartogram section to cater to all the whingy little emo kids the only way i could tell it was a skateshop was the boards on the wall. second thing was the pricing. granted we might be on the threshhold of another skate rececion but if you think im gonna be payin $60 for a t shirt just cause a couple of companies arent doing so well basically your fucking dreaming. to me skateboarding will always be a grassroots thing and its never gonna fade away in any industry companies will come and go its the ones that stay true to there roots that will ultimately succeed.

tpc_mark,

That's great you've can put a positive spin on PSC Melbourne, you're a good boy.

Even if my 'comments are way' surely it's still a shame that my bad PSC experiences have diverted my yearly skate spending away from the store. I spend about $2000 and a bit per year on skating, I know it's not that much but what shop wouldn't want that kind of money?

^^ 'comments are way off'

When I go in to shops, most of the time I am also "vibed' by the dude in the suit and tie Leland, so I can feel your pain.

I guess bald headed, tattooed guys that work in a skateshop that must earn less than them dont register high on the respect chart. I am very lucky to be "payed" by these people to 'assist' them.

Respect is a two way street. Like it or not we all have preconceived ideas about people based on appearance which hopefully are hopefully worked through mentally in the fraction of a second before the interaction of a business transaction takes place. People that cant do this shouldnt work in retail or sales in general.

On the other hand, what happens to the customer that cant interact well, sometimes they find the right place to buy from, perhaps online, where there is no human interaction, for others venting gives them the release that they need.

Hey Everyone.
I have worked in PSC Melbourne since it opened in Dec of 98 and have always been syked on what we are doing in there.
We have looked after everyone since day 1.
The crew that i work with everyday in there are cool people and go out of our way to help every person that comes though the doors.

We have been told by people from the skate industry all over the world that our shop is really cool and we look after people really well.
We have been host to many, many pro demos, instores, video premieres, etc over the years.
These are things we do to always help skaters from all walks of life.
Thats why guys like Jakey, Dustin, Mumford, Callum, Jezza, Azar, Chima and more are proud to represent us and back us.

We are more than just SHOP ASSISTANTS also. We constantly give people good advice as to where to go skate during certain times and what skate events are happening that we know about.

No staff in there think they are too cool. I myself find that i am joking around and having fun with all the skaters that come in there.
They are all great people that I consider my friends aswell as workmates.

Please think again before you slag off our workplace and our business that we are proud to be part of.

thanx,
Mappy

Leland STFU and GTFO

PSC is the best. I feel bad sometimes because I go in there and don't buy anything, I just hang out and watch videos with the more than friendly staff. Mappy is right, they are more than just shop assistants, they give you directions to spots, and give you their honest opinions on product - they don't just try and promote the expensive shit like a lot of other dog stores would. That is all.

i've only ever had one drama at PSC swanston street. i bought a sheet of grip, for the first time in a long time, and the lovely shop assistant cut it about an inch too short. when i went to set up my freshy i didn't even think to check it and when i stuck it on i realised and was a bit pissed off.

not a big drama really and every other time everyone was chill. especially that big fellow that looks like a condom stuffed with walnuts.

poopy-pants 17:12 12/Sep/08

your a proper knob Leland Palmer. wheres the first place you go when you drive into a town? the local shop... they let you know where the parks are and the spots are.
its the backbone of most towns. most of the time there would be no comps or demos or instores or premieres without em.

You know you're in the wrong skate shop when the person selling you a board doesn't know how to apply grip, answers the question "Do you have any Krooked decks" with "Naa mate, they're all straight", puts trucks on back to front, and crushes the hell out of your bearings.

Goodtimes at woollangabba, you can buy a canoe with your World Indy deck

tangent 08:59 13/Sep/08

i wasn't saying that PSC doesn't do anything for the skate industry... PSC was huge and supported so many people and upcoming rippers... and i worked with mappy in the city store and he was my saving grace... him and eddie "the gaysian" were the only reasons why i would go to work there at the city, and the highpoint crew were all fucking sick from damo to adam to of course mark and jade, but from starting at highpoint where everyone was down and mark made a sick atmosphere to work in and for customers to go to, to going to the city at that time, when it was sick to work with mappy and eddie and that was it... its obvious back then there were problems as there was all that position shifting after i left and different managers, etc... so i was talking about PSC back then... but i guess you're bound to find that everywhere yeah? That's the beauty of walking into a shop and just going straight up to mappy to talk to as that's always entertaining!
