This just in from the lads at the GCCC

Here is an eflyer to send around to get people excited about the construction of the Varsity Lakes Youth Precinct. Concrete Skateparks have commenced work (nothing on site as yet, just planning and ordering). We should see something soon. Note also that Pines Lane Elanora and Nerang Youth Precinct are also being constructed by Concrete Skateparks. Work on all three is scheduled to start in late November and early December and finish in February, March and April 2008. Pines Lane first then Varsity then Nerang. Big opening events are planned - bands, activities, demos, competitions. I will keep you all posted.

A hangout space?

this is just asking for trouble. who's designng this facility? why should money for the park be put into a hangout space? the hangout space ends up getting used by people who don't skate.

why would you want people who don't skate hanging around the skatepark? basically they are guaranteed to be causing trouble. Then the cops come down do routine patrols, hassle skaters, all because you provided a "hangout space."

how about you cater to the skaters for once instead of pleasing a few rich old property developers.

Fair call Albert i believe this very thing was brought up at meetings we've had in the past (pizzey design meeting comes to mind) and its because there's not enough skaters willing to go to the council meetings so the voices of the mothers club are being heard louder than that of the skateboarding community which is a shame...
Now if they said Shade with BBQ for sunday arvo sessions then i'd be all for a hang out space!
