If you want something that's totally tweaked out and like a modern cross between Fear and Loathing and the Basketball Diaries (the movie sucked a huge amount of cock but the book is awesome, if you can find it!) check out Douglas Rushkoffs The Ecstasy Club. For pure snigger value nothing beats Irvine Welsh.

I loving the magician.

Its very lord of the ringsish without being packed full of singing homos.

Shit gets wicked...quick.

Pug is tha man.

Im up to the second book in the magician where pug is slaving. I waiting for pug to get some mad powers n fuck shit up.

Is it just me or do the Tsurani = japanese ??
PPazlo_Lanaflex8 Sept 2009
Yeah...pretty much. They have an honour code and the like.

And yeah, you won't be disappointed when Pug gets some mad powers. He goes postal.

What Lazlo says - Pug gets cranky and fucks shit up in a major fashion.

Throughout the books there is a fair analogy with nationalities etc. - Tsurani = Japanese, dwarves = Scots, Isles = pommies, and so on. There is even an Aussie analogy in later books.

Jommy the Aussie!
Bbondiboy669 Sept 2009
He's An Hard Bastard too.
PPazlo_Lanaflex9 Sept 2009
Is it actually Jommy?

Man, I can't remember...he's written so many books.
Bbondiboy669 Sept 2009
It is - your memory is not failing you!

Whoa...is this the 'poofy old dude in wizards hat thread', or the fucking BOOK THREAD NIGGAZ!

*puts on wizard hat and bats one off*
Bbondiboy669 Sept 2009
Hey! There are no poofy old wizards in thems books! Cunts with swords, death and destruction et al sure. But no pooftersexuals in pointy hats!

Onto tin foil hats, I'm reading 'Dark Mission - The Secret History of NASA' by Richard C Hoagland and Mike Bara at the moment. Basically they are contending that NASA is hiding tons of stuff about extra-terrestrials and have hidden agendas relating to that sort of thing. Interesting in a fruitcakey sort of way.

Currently getting through 'The Intelligent Investor' by Ben Graham (or as I like to refer to it 'The Bible').

I love Feist, and the Tsurani are definitely based on the Japanese ( Tsu is a basic syllable in Japanese, as in Tsunami ) BUT Pratchett had that locked down first so it is a bit of a bite.

Have been literally eating up anything by Alastair Reynolds over the last year or so. Just finished his most recent offering 'House of Suns' and it is awesome. Check out 'Revelation Space', 'Chasm City' and 'Redemption Ark' it is well worth it.

PPazlo_Lanaflex10 Sept 2009
Yeah, Pratchett is/was the man for that kind of stuff.

Fuck I love his books.

Hey Laz, I met him twice. First time at a nerd convention where he was the guest speaker. We had a couple of beers at the hotel with him and his missus. He is actually a funny bastard in real life, bit like Bill Bailey. A week later I bumped in to him in Perth and he asked me if I would show him and the wife around. They were wearing matching short panted safari suits (minus the Pith Helmets unfortunately). It was in 93 or 94 I believe.
