I'm reading "A Suitable Boy" by Vikram Seth. I'm only 300 or so pages in and I still have 1100+ to go. I'm enjoying it, but Indian writers are quite prosaic when describing things, so getting used to Victorian era style of writing (considering it is post-independence India) and the complexities of relationships and the caste system in Indian life is taxing and usually sends me off to sleep pretty quick.

Prior to that, I've smashed out a few pulpish stories
Live Fire - Stephen Leather
Another one of his books in the series that I've enjoyed

Death Force - Matt Lynn
Not a bad story about mercenaries in Afghanistan, but I got a bit pissed off at his research when the Aussie in the story said he couldn't wait to get back to have a bbq with shrimp and burgers (steak and prawns dickhead). Also, there was a point where two soldiers who'd been left a few miles behind guarding a stash of gold suddenly appeared in a firefight for a paragraph or two, then just as quickly disappeared again without a mention. Methinks the editor was asleep at the wheel.

The Bible is pretty cool..
Just extremly hard not to yawn while reading it..
9 out of 10..
But a tough one to tackle

Hey Lazlo was it you that recommended Conn Iggulden? If it was then thanks, I read the Emperor series over the past month. Pretty keen to seek out his Genghis Kahn books now.

I like fiction, but the Bible is just too unbelievable. Its Like Stephen Reilly on crack.

And Russ, yeah the Emperor books were rad...the Genhis ones are even mroe gnarly.

I've always thought that nick cave or someone like that should rewrite the old testement.

I always find it dissapointing when it reads like

and then he was stoned. and then they move on without any discription. They skip over the good details!

The only part of the bible worth reading is Genesis chapter 4. After reading who begat fucking who about people who apparently lived for over 800 years, you realise how much a crock of shit the rest of it must be.

Give me "And the Ass Saw the Angel" as a new bible any day.
DDisinteresTed10 Dec 2009
anyone read nicks new book yet?

I have not read and the ass saw the angel yet though

i would say born again jesus lover / skateboarder
Ooxymoron10 Dec 2009
It amazes me that as a born again, you only rate the bible a 9/10, considering that it essentially prescribes your raison d'être. Which commandment didn't you like?
