im pretty keen on getting a Boss Gt-8 multi effects...
anyone here used one/have one/recommend it or others?
I want to use it for jaming and gigs eventually so im hoping its not too fiddly and easy to recall assigned settings on the spot?
any knowledge would be well appreciated :)

Ben I love my GT8. Here comes an ultimate fanboy post.
so easy to just get different sounds going on the spot, it's got knobs all over the front so just turn them and they work like normal separate pedals. GT10 seems to be more menus and shit without the knobs but I haven't tried it. The only thing is you gotta sort of know what bank/patch your in and remember to save it otherwise if you change to another patch you'll lose the tweaks.
I'm pretty set in the ones I use for the stage so don't change them all too often any more but every now and then I jam with different dudes and can come up with some pretty cool sounds to match pretty quick.
Sounds really good going straight into a computer to record and with headphones practicing but you will need to make up new patches for this as the regular ones for playing loud usually sound shit recording on your own.
One thing that is so fucking awesome with this when you are playing loud is using in stereo.
My over indulgent setup when I feel like blowing the world apart with metal consists of:
Make two patches come out of the left and right channels. Add a very small amount of delay between the two. One usually a bit more mids, the other with good thick bass. Plug each left and right channel into the two separate power sections of a dual monobloc valve power amp (mine's a Marshall 9100).
Then line up two quad boxes (or four, I have done this a couple of times) and spread the quads as far apart as you can.
Turn the volume on the power amp as far as it will go, then adjust volume from the pedal to suit.
Stand in between them both and blast away.
On your lead patch use the stereo delay and other weird effects if you use them (chorus, flanger) will sound like they are swirling around the room, it's phenomenal!
You could also do this going into the regular input of two normal amps.
Anyway let me know how you go with your purchase and I can help you out with some patch settings if you aren't getting results out of it straight away.

Thank you heaps fetus! just the answer i was hoping to hear :)
i have been youtubing the shit out of them today and am loving what im seeing/hearing...
i was also looking at the pod xt, vox tone lab and the digitech gnx's aswell but im pretty sure the boss gt-8 takes the cake...
the next question... im pretty sure its a discontinued product with the gt-10 out now, any ideas of places to pick up one of these bad boys? (apart from the obvious ebay..ect)

yeh I would say ebay, they go for pretty cheap now I think... I look every now & then to see what mine's worth. Other than I think there's a forum at Bmusic where people trade stuff although I'm not a member or anything.

comparing the gt8 pedal the pod xt etc... I think the others have an easier to acheive sharper polished sound straight away which a lot of people seem to like... but I wanted mine to be more of a pre-amp +fx to work in a real amp rig setup which it definitely has the feel of. You can get the polished sounds out of the gt8 as well it can just take some time to dial them in.

i don't dabble too much with multi-effects, or any, i'm pretty much a valve amp purist you could say, but a mate brought over a Line 6 X3 Live or something the other. looked like a robust unit, didn't seem to sound too bad....but i do feel that all these digital pre-amp emulators have a certain thinness about their sound i'm not too down with.
just another option if you're willing to check em out anyway

cheers.. yeah i have found someone who wants to sell one so hopefully thats it...
i have mainly just played it clean, but recently been playing it through a korg kaoss pad...slightly limiting though.. cant wait to get a gt8, looks extremely fun

yuck
Hey Pig you will wee yourself when I tell you you can put your Riot pedal anywhere in the fx chain as an external preamp to work with the GT8.
Hells yeh!! Thats amazing!!
If I wasn't sold before, I may well be now!

fans of electric heavy metal lead guitar should come to my gig tonight, Contraban, Metal, Lust and Lord playing at the Annandale from 8pm it's like 12 bucks or so I think.
Not if anyone else on here is as big a fan as I am, but the new Alter Bridge track gets released on the RoadRunner Australia website at 4pm this afternoon.
How'd the show go last night Danny?

yeh it was wicked Pig! Line-up was cool, bluesy rock, then metal then glam rock, then power metal.
It's always interesting to see how long we can end the last song for, this time would have been over 2 minutes I think... only a half hour set you know so that was holding us back

Nicely done fetus!
i played my first gig 2night with my new band..loved it!
I ended up buying the GT 10... after reading reviews it seemed a lot more user friendly and apparently the sound quality of higher freq is clearer? could really just be preference..the GT 8 looked amazing to me.. I cant complain at all about mine! Basically still haven't had time to explore all the options yet, but seems so powerful and fun!
