No Balance, fuck Nike SB too.

Corporate fucks making profit for something they never cared for at all or backed 100% until it was deemed popular. Sure they are doing good things for skateboarding the world over, but why now? What's so special about this time in skateboarding that got them interested?

Considering it was Jamie Thomas who organised the whole NB# deal, I dont think 'Corporate Fucks' are soley to be blammed.

Also you answered your own question...

I wasn't answering my own question, subliminally stating a fact that it is purely not popularity that lured them in and also a point of view that is not only reflecting how I feel, but many others as well.

I'd be interested to see just how much longer legit skate brands will last as a result of all these sports companies coming in and taking away what generations of skaters worked so damn hard, broke bones and donated blood for.

Luckily, I am not a sheep when it comes to product like so many others. "Oh, its got a white swoosh, and everyone else is repping them, I will too"

Slaytanic,
Vans was never started as a skateboard shoe company, but they now have a skateboard team and manufacture skateboard shoes. Do you hold the same views towards Vans?

would have been more keen if it were new balance in charge of manufacturing rather than fallen

I hear people comparing Vans to Nike with that exact point quite often, so I'd like to offer my two cents...

Nike SB began in 2002, some 38 years after Nike was first founded, while Nike were already a multi-national, multi-billion dollar company that supplied goods worldwide and had kids working in sweatshops for 50 cents an hour.

Vans began around the same time as Nike, and inadvertently entered the skateboarding world when skaters started wearing their shoes. When they had Peralta and Alva design their first skate shoe they'd been in business for only 9 years and had something like 3 stores worldwide, which all happened to be a few miles from each other. Street skateboarding did not yet even exist, let alone be popular. I think there's a slight difference between the circumstances of the two...

That being said, I love Nike shoes and have no problem with what they're doing in skateboarding. Their team is rad. They put on that SBA comp the other day which was also rad. Their shoes are better and longer lasting than Vans. Still, you can't compare the two...

I heard vans (vf corp) just bought element/billabong/shep the other day?

does that mean shep will now have an accent?

Never said anything about Vans, more Lakai in this case.

I have been skating long enough to know Nike were never around, even when it boomed in the 80's and 90's so why didn't they jump on in then? Maybe they didn't have the means for such a multi billion dollar company? Now as Skateboarding is more socially acceptable thanks to XGames and more highly produced video productions for example, Nike saw this as an in and kudos to them, they are fooling people the world over. The styles of their shoes are shithouse at best

hahaha +1

also hating on nike is just bitchy and pathetic at best. they're doing good shit, no company gets a free pass and the only votes that count are dollars.

I'm into the blue and red new balance model. Keen to see it in the flesh.

idk why but these days I'm more irked by consolidated's, 'fuck nike sb' campaign then I am by nike, nb, addidas or converse making skate shoes, but I guess in the end it impacts me very little
