krim13 Dec 2012That's why I didn't buy CONS at Shifty's when they first pushed into the skate market. The rep guy came in with a briefcase and tried to sell me something I knew 10 times more than he did about. It also didn't help when I commented on how good their team was and he didn't even know they had a team let alone who any of them were..... I wonder if it would have been different if he was wearing a power skirt and heels......?
id say so....
You got screwed Jim. Cons vic reps have been consistently hot for a while. No power dressing though.
hot and female even

atheosx18 Dec 2012huge news, PJ switches from one huge shoe brand to another.. but inevitably the shoe he skates will basically be identical no matter whether its NB or ADIDAS.
seems like alot of backing behind this new balance deal. theyre gunna go into the market knowing whats popular and what sells and release theyre own version of it. theyre not gunna be trying to push boundaries so im expecting a solid all round good quality skate shoe. will probably purchase (unless size 8 accels are available on ebay)

ballsy move by the chief, he must think most people don't really care about the whole selling out argument these days. Maybe he sees it as a way of making sure zero is finacially safe into the future.
Iindigo meadow20 Dec 2012If people want skate brands to make the money over these sport shoes, dont stock them in your shops.
Jamie Thomas the guy that said that black box was skate companys owned by skateboarders, now has a sport company and a surf company, great work there Mr.Thomas but you done fucked up bro.

"If people want skate brands to make the money over these sport shoes, dont stock them in your shops"
I'm not sure it's as easy as that, ie core/skater owned skate shops blacklisting sport companies. The percentage of shops stocking nike/adidas/cons that are skater owned is comparitively small. More indepenednt stores will just go bust if they take this approach since a whole chunk of their cash comes from "sport company" shoe sales. People will just buy them elsewhere. "Core" shops are probably more likely to keep an "og skate" company having a foot in the door than any chain running solely on numbers and sales reports is. I think you'd get the opposite effect from what you intend.

imgne_20 Dec 2012This ^^^
Also, I was under the assumption that in order to get the core skate/pro model range from the likes of Nike/Adidas/Cons, you have to be a legitmate skate shop that meets specific requirments?
If this is true, thats great, it ensure's that the proper skate shoes are sold through skate shops only, rather than the "lifestyle like" skate shoes, that you can skate in but aren't neccesarily the best, that you can find at most city beach style shops these days.
Please tell me if I've got this all wrong, cause I'm pretty interested to know if this is actually the case.
As for the whole corparate debate, I'm sure these brands including NB, didn't start out as corprate brands. They built a reputation through years of development to become the successful brands they are today and not to mention they are shoe specialists.
You cant exactly deny the things they are doing for skateboarding either, they put a lot of money into development, events & pro's, so its not like their just taking our money and giving nothing back.
Yes they're only in the skate market now because there's a demand for it through skateboardings new found popularity, but thats just common sense business wise. But you cant deny the quality difference between these brands and the 'skater owned' shoe brands.
It wouldn't surprise me that if skateboarding's popularity was to die off again, that some of these companies would pull the pin, but thats just going to give more oppourtunites for skater owned business to pick up the slack again. If I was a skater owned shoe brand right now, I'd possibly consider doing what es' has done, pull the pin now & see how it all pans out, bank the money that's left and if the market opens up again, sieze the opportunity. That is of course if the business wasn't making a profit, which I'm sure most of the skater owned brands probably still are.
I think the nike sb range is still fairly tight to "skate shops". Definition varies I think depending the area. Some places just dont have a "core" shop so they still need a presence. Some shops selling scooters and blades etc sell sb, I think maybe the line is drawn at bikini's and rash vests - as I said it varies. Janoskis, kostons,p-rods, slazars all got dropped from the sb range a little while back, so you'll find them more broadly.
Cons when they came in (and maybe still are) were super super strict. They wanted you to have a vans syndicate account, an indy tat and a beard at the time.
Adidas Skate I think is/was in a range of joints - sneakerhead joints and skate stores mainly. I believe they are in a period of flux re all that now.
pjs a contract nazio

.SYLVA4 Jan 2013the heritage of new balance has always inspired me...
said no one ever...
except jamie thomas...
who will most likely still wear fallen footwear...
New Balance is way to boring to ever do something exciting for skateboarding. And if they did do something it would be the lamest family oriented skateboarding event of the year.
But it would feature PJ doing some cool ledge tricks.
Until he bails to another company when New Balance goes back to runnerz.
