now im not the biggest pro with this sorta stuff andrew, but this is what i would like to see:
maybe have the flash a little less powerful? just so it doesnt like up that fence and tree and whatever (or maybe shoot the car in more of a wide open space). also try and keep the lit up ground to a bare minimum just around the car.
also, i think there is a lot of nothing at the bottom of the frame, maybe move in a bit if you are going to get low?

cheers.

ok this is just my personal opinion andrewb just with the flash idput the flash closer to the cam and higher up coz it lights the back half great but not the front and bonnet, but u may have been wanting that id just like to see some of the front lit up

RE: Miscellaneous Pictures hahhaah, oh my god. Last weekend was hell busy for me...

Wedding on Saturday was different to say the least. Temperature in high 30's which made the day hot & uncomfortable, clients were commited new age christians. Just a really weird day!
This photo was shot at a Jewish wedding on Sunday. Once again, the weather was high 30's, & hot enough to melt the bride's fake tan (all down one side of her 'white' dress). I ended up shooting 1500 or so images over 14 hours (full day/reception), & gaming a cute (non-jewish) German blonde for her phone number. Overall, not a bad weekend.

Comments / feedback?
Thanks.

Hey Andrew, the car photos above are pretty good as far as lighting the detail & in the general composition.
But there's also a few key problems IMO.
Basically, there's no background illumination, no sense of environment, and the colour of the lamps looks shit blown out & overexposed.
Sorry to be harsh, but with an expensive car shot, you probably want to make the car look as slick as possible.
Can you reshoot this?

i may be able to my dad brings home a different car nearly every night, atm the is a brand new jeep wrangler sitting there, sometimes a station wagon or a ute he never know if if he does bring it back i will.
also i only have 1 reciver so i can only use 1 flash atm. if i get to how would you suggest i do it?
props on the chick, and i like your idea with the reflection shot.

I reckon one flash is all you need to fill, although two would be twice as good.
I havent had heaps of experience lighting cars, but it looks like you've maintained exposure well, considering the shiny, specular reflection of cars!
To improve the reshoot, trying shooting earlier in the night, any time around dusk/dark (the magic hour), or find a location with more lights in the background (city lights?)...
Also use a tripod if ya got one, try longer exposures to bring up the background illumination, double exposure for car/lights, or open the shutter & 'paint' light into the scene. If I can find some examples, I'll post em for you...

RE: Miscellaneous Pictures yep, tripod, polariser...long shutter speed and walk around firing your flash into the frame using the test button.

this is a shot i did the lighting for, no background in it because it was really ugly...but you can see how you can get nice even light.
