ADY - Myer Music Bowl shots were from the Melbourne International Music Festival this year - good weekend of music, but not really a festival...

A few questions...
(1) Have you been shooting your night shots on the Canon digital? If so, it's handling the long exposures really well. (2) Have you tried photographing the South Celestial Pole? The image with the car kinda shows what the effect can look like.
(3) How do you manage to control the digital noise with long exposures? Any post-processing advice you can offer?
(4) How many years have you been photographing?

Damn, I'm loving the lighting photography!
Night photography is fun except when you run out of alchohol/coffee/batteries, or when all you can do is just watch the clouds roll in and ruin a perfectly clear night. FUCK.

Yeah i shoot the night stuff on my Canon. It has a feature that is called long exposure noise reduction that kind of helps, and I would never shoot any long exposure one anything above 100. Digital just cant handle it noise wise. For me the best way around this is to only shoot my night stuff in the surrounding days of a full moon. Normally no less than 2 days either side. Never really done and south pole star trails, actually only ever done the one trail way back and that was a request from a fellow forum head. Did photography at school but then kind of faded away from it. Took it back up about 4 years ago.

ive been playing with my cam now - how do you take an 8 minute shot? I can only work out 30 seconds???

bulb. The very stop after 30 sec. Either steady your cam on a solid tripod and just hold the shutter, or buy yourself a cheap cable release cable ( after market much cheaper than Canon ) that has a lock. Ebay my friend :). You probably should save for a new lense first but, like a 90-300 :) :) :)
