Backman ollie into death ride.
That's it from me for now, i shot all of these over the weekend and it was my first time shooting with more than one flash. gimme some ideas on how i can improve if you will.
I was looking for thoughts on this. Decided to play with 'the tilt' and go with something different on the angle. it was a really hard spot to shoot (because of the patchy contrasty natural light and conveying how shit and thin the run up was)

ollie into the bank looks rad
Hey Cameron sometimes the tilt can work but in this case it makes it pretty hard to instantly see what's going on in the photo. I had to look around for a bit to see where he was coming from cause it looks like he's sort of just suspended there in the middle. Definitely a hard trick and hard spot to shoot!!!
He's lit well against the bright background though good job
listen to the fetus.
main use of tilt in skateboarding is to show direction, which turned out a bit weird in the above pic because the skater could almost be skating both ways (daewon style). tilt is also good for matching up lines when you get perspective distortion. i've got a friend that tilts the fuck outta his photos just for the sake of being artsy. it gets my goat because it's such a useful tool and can save a photo if used correctly.
does that make sense or am i insane? either way works for me
Thanks a bunch for taking the time out of your day to provide such helpful information. I was sort of getting the same vibe when i was looking at it prior to posting it (sort of hurt my eyes to look at because i couldn't work out a flow for my eyes across the photo)
Moey, it was your stuff that planted the original idea in my brain to try tilt. I'll keep at it and see what i come up with in the future, only where the technique is appropriate.
fetus, for an unformed prematurely ejected baby your sure have a strong working knowledge of photography, thanks for the props and advice!
glad to help
here's an example of tilt. when the pic is cropped it looks like i've 'tilted the fuck outta it just for the sake of being artsy'. it's on this angle to line up the clocks (perspective) and also to emphasize where brass is going (direction). but yeah, you could shoot this trick with the lens cap on and it's still going to look gnarrrr
sometimes i wonder why mags crop covers so badly...jake darwen's slam cover is another prime example. looks so much better uncropped. i guess it obviously suits the layout etc better but man...
oh my god jason morey posts on this site
i tried to to tilt the fuck out of this shot. now my necks just sore
Yeah walker that shot is great
Dylan Jeffrey - frontside grind over the step
Harley does an ollie and somehow he always manages to wear a pair of pants that match the background every time I try to shoot a photo of him.
^^ thats awesome,
I kinda wish he was just the tiniest bit higher off the rail to add that little bit more depth.
yeah was hoping i could get that too man..got lower but the sky looked weird in it, and every other one the flare wasn't as nice. but i should have figured it out. cheers dude.
wouldnt mind seeing another one or two. flare just makes it look overexposed. great shot though!
I really like that. I like proper side on photos. Gives a real accurate perspective of the trick including runup and rollaway.
Killing it Walker, you should start you own photo thread? You're pretty consistent with uploads.
