That's it, on your knees kids.
Can anyone give me an example of a shoe that meets my following requirements.
A) top quality shoe, not dogshit when compared to nikes/adidas etc
B) sponsors good dudes, does not diversify into wakeskate or lifestyle crap
C) is 100% owned by well respected and loved skateboarder
D) has been part of skateboarding since the beginning, for the purposes of this we'll make the beginning at least 1982.
thanks in advance
and that wasn't a joke, they actually skate really good
RE: Any shoe that meets these requirements...
Vans is about the closest thing to having a life long pro skateboard roster and pro shoes to go with it.
As to all the other brands, or other criteria on that list, I think everyone has had a bit of a pull at the proverbial main stream market place penis to try to get a rise out of selling a few more pairs of shoes and make a few more $$ from the skate shoe look for the non skateboarder.
Everything has the pros and cons and personal opinions as to what is good and what is not. That's why it is so good to have other brands on the market, so you know which ones are good and which ones are not so good, or in the case of some, which ones are completely off the other end of the scale in terms of how much of a piece of shit they really are.
Choose from price / affordability, availability, board feel and longevity, or what ever other factors apply to your own situation, but at the end of the day, there is always some person out there in need of a new pair of shoes and a lot of choices in the current market place.
For me, if I found a better shoe than Vans, I would wear them, but they work for me, so that is what I am going to stick with, and for all the others, there are only so many different ways you can cut leather to look like a different shoe and change the brand, name and price on it, the side logo / stripe / whatever gets you happy, so keep on buying the new ones and see how they go for you.
As a side note, as well as looking at the ad for the TNT 5 shoe, I did think they looked rad and was down to buy a pair until I tried them on and then thought I would rather get another pair of half cabs or something, but if anyone has any, please let me know what you thought of them, how long they lasted, how the different foot bed was for you, etc, as I don't think I would have anything positive to say from the 2 minutes I had them on in the shop.
^after reading that ryder shoe review im actully pretty psyched on it.
The vulcanised slip on gravis in that review is actually alright looking, the ones skateboard mag posted were absolutely horrible. I'd probably considered those reviewed ones if they were cheap
Are there any other sites besides weartested that do decent reviews?
http://rippedlaces.blogspot.com/ also does reviews, but not as indepth as weartested, and also doesn't have the large back catalogue of reviews weartested has.
This is the Omar 1.5, a vulcanised version of the original Omar.
not hyped on the janoski mid in the slightest.
All about those AV skate lows
so keen on them suede vans eras, and that new adidas shoe looks so good!
