Today, a skate shop owner told me that he's selling more cruiser boards than regular set-ups.
I've been seeing more hipsters on cruiser boards, compared to 'real' skateboarders on the Melbourne streets. Even at some skateparks...
Is this good or bad for skateboarding in the long run? Or does it not matter at all?
A 'real' skateboarder is anyone riding a skateboard and loves doing it. Whether they are riding a cruiser board or a regular set up. Skating Street, Vert, Parks or Roads (or anything else). Whether they do tricks or just roll.
Skateboarding is meant to be about freedom as long as your rolling for fucks sake. People need to get off their high horse thinking they are better or a more 'real' skateboarder.
well said
Cruisers are awesome! I'd say they are a necessity when living inner city.
Mine is a Cliche Brophy custom shape (not pro model, he wasn't pro when he gave it to me) so it's a normal 'trick' board shape but wider with a longer wheel base. It's got 149 Indys, Modus titaniums and Rainskate Tsunamis. 'S awesome.
p.s. Did ya like the name drop Brains? Ya tosser!
^^^^ should try using them
I like skateboarding.
Anything that gets people rolling (on a board) is great in my opinion. I don't care if they are doing it to cos its the latest craze or whatever, and definately better than a scooter.
Pretty sure I took up skating cos it was popular and 'cool' (at least with the people i looked up to at the time)
Along with my 'street' board, I have a 'cruiser' board i guess, Black Label Lucero with 5.25 Destructos and some sort of Sector nine longboard wheels i think.
This thing is awesome! as a few people have said, perfect for runs to the bottlo and cruisin on our rough as guts tassie footpaths (imagine someone puoring super smooth then sprinkling gravel all through the top. you simply cant get around with 54mm wheels on some of this shit).
I give it a good thrashin at the park as well, its a bit like weights training, you gotta work a lot harder to flip it! Also inspires you to skate a bit differently and try different tricks to a normal setup.
Personally I'm not keen on longboards, but probably cos I suck at skating them personally, and i like to be able to do an ollie here and there.
Cruiser thread is the new fixie thread.
I agrea with Saunders. Having the option to crack a hottie up a kerb, or over a manhole cover for fun, is an important part of cruiserizm for me. Don't dig the 'no kick tail' versions.
Wish I had that pic of Luke Newman smashing an air in Belco on a Black Label Emergency cruiser.
as long as they arent the super longboards or the tiny little rollerskate ones they are awesome.
and yeah alot of "posers" have them but after a decent slam they will stop and move onto whatever the next cool thing to have is.
also look up krooked zip zinger clips on youtube to see some awesome cruiser board skating
That is fuken rad!
Luke has got to be one of the gnarliest, underated skaters
drew = sitting on a gold mine of memories, I am sure.

Braddox, you are a knobjockey.
I'm just starting a discussion. I'm not particularly 'for' or 'against' cruiser boards.
