I think you nailed it Josh, good to see Skate Aust finally die but loosing all that money is a huge lose. If there were the proper people in place that could have done heaps for Skating.
The ride is over Dallas, there's some jobs going at FIFA that you'd be perfect for.
Dallas bailed a few months ago, hence the ad for CEO @ $100k. He didn't do much to get paid! Basically just gouged more holes in a sinking ship by hiring some poor choices AKA Marty Moose and trashing their own reputation via social media.
The money has all been pissed up
The wall. What did we get? Certainly not good value. Even if skateboarding qualified for the Olympics (an idea that makes me cringe!) we will never have that kind of funding ever again.
A transparent audit would be the only course of action. I'm cautious of suggesting criminal activity, but until an audit has occurred it is a reasonable assumption. The onus is on them to put the facts on the table to disprove that reasonable assumption.
I'm with you Josh. I'm calling shenanigans. You do not get ALL your funding dropped unless you have been super super dodgy.
I don't know if they are dead, they still get their roller skatin membership dollars etc and don't they still scam grants off state and local yeah?
Yes, but depending on what has gone down it may be cancelled.
If a business with a $50k annual turn over provided financials with such a vague breakdown for expenditure it would sound alarm bells. The above doc is from their treasurer, submitted to the national government. It raises suspicion.
I've been threatened verbally with defamation in the past from SA, so I have to be careful.
My personal opinion is that I am alleging there may have been issues of serious misconduct, perhaps even criminal. The lack of transparency with government funded monies, and failure to deliver services despite large government and private grants is of concern. As a community we should be requesting an federal audit. I would be surprised if this was not already underway.
Either way, the money is gone. I hate to think of the squandered opportunities.
Any ideas on rallying against SA? I imagine with some help from industry heads/shops we could again push for our own fed funded Skateboarding Australia. Some of the skateboarding participation level statistics alone should help the cause. I couldn't imagine the current goverment would have a bar of it but assuming Labor comes into power next..we would be more likely.
There are things happening in that regard. Should be announced soon. From what I have seen it looks great. I'm not involved, just been kept in the loop a bit
The SbA Hubs (Clinics and Local Comps) were funded with grants from councils and local governments. Now that SbA is done there should be a lot of opportunities for people to apply for grants and get things happening on their own terms. Regardless of all the bullshit happening higher up in Skate Australia, the skateboarding clinics and the locals running them on the ground were doing good things. Hopefully most of them have the initiative to apply for grants/insurance and keep things going without SbA.
Indeed, the people at the coal face running the clinics do an outstanding job. They can keep going. The VSA in Victoria have received another small grant, which they stretch to provide about 100 clinics in schools a year. They are always wanting new in dependant people to get the work, provided the coaches have their affairs in order. They want to move away from the YMCA being the main deliverer of the services. If you are in Vic and want to do coaching or hold an event put forth a proposal to them. I resigned as a board member a couple of years ago after a 10 year involvement. They need people with fresh ideas to lend a hand and get involved, and are calling out for crew. SA were ruthless in trying to shut VSA down and obtain their funding and intellectual property. They behaved in a bullish fashion for years, re begging on all negotiations and not responding to questions or requests for months on end.
Donny Fraser would be the person to get in touch with if you are wanting to be a coach. He seems to have the best overall plan, training and strategy sorted. A smart young man.
The rough going rate to charge councils ect is $35-50 per hour. To hold sessions where gear is supplied councils are charged about $1000-1500 to hold a session for about 20 kids.
From my research, the SBA/SA clinics left the coaches open to litigation. Their insurance was very limited and flawed. I raised my concerns with the relevant government authorities after SA ignored questions. It was a lawsuit waiting to happen and they would have left some poor hung out to dry.
