Everyone's coming a it from the wrong angle... $300,000 will build a great skate park next to the square in the shit ton of space next to it. Problem solved.

As well as the petition, what Josh says is the right way.

Delivering the petition in person will also be a polite thing to do, ....of course someone will need to have a wash, put on a clean shirt, with a collar that covers the more offensive job-stoppers(if any), and meet a local councilor(preferably Green) in person, and prove to that councilor that skateboarders are able to respect the site as a memorial also!
And the rest of you will have to back him(or her) by your actions, and own Lincoln Square as if each and everyone of you had a relation that was killed.

Respect actually does work....I just hope you get enough signatures before the works are complete.

Still 210 short after all these months....Hmmmmmm!

For anyone who missed the meeting here's the details of the motion...

1. That the Future Melbourne Committee:
1.1. notes the outcomes of the Lincoln Square ‘Design In’ community engagement Future Melbourne Committee – Tuesday 9 December 2014 6
1.2. recognises that skateboarding is a prohibited activity and requests management instruct officers to continue to enforce Activities Local Law 2009
1.3. requests that management:
1.3.1. investigates alternative lo cations to accommodate skate boarding
1.3.2. develops a strategic skate framework involving consultation with relevant stakeholders including the Parks & Gardens Advisory
Committee
1.3.3. identifies the feasibility, potential locations, costs and likely partners for an internationally renowned skate park for Melbourne that caters for street style skating, park skateboarding, inline skating and BMX.
1.4. recommends that Council consider up to $300,000 for the installation of design
features that support the prescribed use of Lincoln Square.

the council saying shit like 'building an internationally renowned skate park' as some kind of replacement/solution to the lincoln square debacle shows that the people who have had problems with skating over the years still don't really understand what street skating is all about. i'm not saying that if they did, they'd be down with it, it's more that history has shown us that its a lot harder to stop or resolve something if you don't know a thing about it, so until they go and do a little more research on the culture of skateboarding, or the skate community speaks for and about itself, we're gonna keep getting bullshit motions like these and bullshit herald sun rants like these (and lets face it theres been like 10 since they called this place a memorial). but yer, there's definitely been a surplus over the last couple of years of beers blunts bucket hats and no complies and a lot less real skating

The people that are saying justifications like "only part of lincoln is a memorial" and "skaters owned it first" are the ones to shame and blame.

Instead of publicly naming and shaming anonymously on the internet why don't you have a word to the people you reckon have caused the problems? Let them know that they need to pull their head in not shit where they eat?

It's a timely reminder that taking some pride and ownership of your spot is sadly a lost art. If you, as a community, are going to leave rubbish everywhere and carry on like gronks expect to have your spot shut down. Same with skateparks. We are in a cycle of having extensions ect on existing parks. Take some pride in your local and speak up when crew leave without putting their crap in the bin.

Sure I'm a bit old school, but it's common courtesy. I'm pretty over sweeping up broken glass before a session because morons couldn't clean up after themselves.

After watching Fully Flared again I noticed Marc Johnson has a line a Lincoln, from this I thought hey why isn’t there a Loncoln montage. I suggest that someone makes a spectacular montage of how great Lincoln is to skateboarders to showcase why it shouldn’t be skate stopped. That way the Melbourne council will be able to see that this spot actually has value to the skateboarding community, that would be a great benefit to the cause and will help the petition ten fold in my opinion. Who is up for the challenge?

Lincoln Montage would be pretty rad, but unfortunately I doubt it would have much impact on changing the situation to the skateboarders advantage.

Funny thing about all this that I've noticed, even since this decision has been laid down, I still quite often see instagram posts/photos/videos of people skating the place, most of them are on point with simply skating the space, but there is still a select few that advertise the fact that they are still keen on chilling/grilling & drinking down there...

It seemed like a good idea when I was drunk last night. You are right it won't help very much.

Here is a song for all the piles at Lincoln that are not gonna change just because the man says so.

Or the other shitty piece. Obviously the skater in the image is unrelated

I'm satisfied that the people have been told by mutual people to leave the park alone. It is just going to kill the surface and shorten the whole life of the place. As with all parks, the more shit gets buffed the more porous the concrete becomes. It really upsets the people that have worked hard for years to get new places built
