WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS

great hardflip photo as well, i like how the street light kind of boxes him in

Kicks

kicks, im down for this one.

Kicks it is then?!

i dont really know...
but i think it makes more sense for a photographic themed assignment thing the topics should be more based around photography or photographers.

why not something like this.

shoot a skateboarding photo reminiscent of trent parke's revers shadow shit that he did (example below)
so the idea is, expose for the shadow, so that the subject is completely blown out and ghost like.

trent park is the only australian photographer in the elite magnum photo agency. pay homage?

i dont know... i just think it makes more sense to have proper photographically themed assignments rather then just "here's a word, now interpret it and take a photo" or just "best kickflip!"

hmmm...
thoughts? i'll shoot one too if we do something interesting.

trent parkes = win, you enter andrew i wanna judge!

I agree with Bibboy. The Trent Parke theme sounds sweet.

I've always wanted to do a 'newspaper' theme.. Basically take the piss out of newspaper photographers when they have to shoot skaters in ACTION doing AIRS and TAKING OUT THE GRAND PRIZE. So yeah, it could be a bail shot or a portrait of some kid sitting in front of a skate park with a sad face - anything you think you'd see in a newspaper and make you say, "Friggin hell why don't they just buy a skate pic off a skate photog or get Gourlay or Peters to shoot it or some shit?!"
some examples...

http://www.mlive.com/news/flint/index.ssf/2008/05/flint_skate_park_to_open_satur_1.html EVEN GOLDER. At this point I'm thinking the photo should be accompanied with a short paragraph or at least a head line to support the story behind the photo - "Aspiring professional skateboarder Rafael Padilla, 17, of Flint is one of two skateboarders allowed to test equipment Friday as city workers install and paint the skateboarding park at Swartz Creek Golf Course on Hammerberg Road just north of I-69. The other skateboarder was Chad Mora of Captive Sports. The new Flint skate park will have its grand opening from 1-4 p.m. Saturday with free hot dogs and pop." Pop? wtf is pop. ohhh because skaters have pop! yeah sick. Taken from the top story... GOLD
Maybe have this theme after the Parke theme?

I was thinking that 'pop' may refer to soft drinks but then again I don't think they would talk like that in Michigan..? Sounds funny. Free pop!

Sounds awesome. Gonna be hard to get a shot in natural light with the current weather.

Met Trent park a couple years ago. Interesting fello.

well if you cant do it with natural light... flash out a strip and expose it for the ambient.... i dont know... just as idea??? makes sense right?

haha moey sounds too good

yes moey great idea!
but wait till next week, this trent parke idea sounds really cool

that is also a great idea. but weather is terd right now. i think that would be a summer assignment.

Definitely be able to do it with flash tho. As Andrew mentioned. Will be pretty fun!

trent parkes photos are ammazing,

i took this photo a few years ago for a uni assigment on city at night,
the photo was inspired by trent parkes
(*i cbf scanning the print so i took a photo of it*)

sick one sona
im really geed to see what everyone comes up with

awesome..

Guessing everyone realized how unfeasible that theme was for skateboarding?

Yeah I guess so comic book guy.

i need a film scanner

If this idea is going ahead i suggest a skate doco (day in the life). They did this on skateperception not too long ago but i reckon it would be cool to do it on here.

*if the current idea isn't going ahead

How about fuck the theme we just go take some god damn photos and post them here?

how about suck my dick

how about lance (or someone else) gives us a theme thats not near impossible this time? I liked this theme, just too hard for most to pull off, but something similar but a little easier could work. theres already a misc skate photos thread after all. i wonder if he actually shot one? he's probably still in america anyway,.
