whos doing what tomorrow old mates?
Wollongong Skaters Thread
No Hannah I hit post and than my phone died so when I charged it and went to the interwebs it posted
haha! soo good!
that line was one of the more exemplary portions of skateboarding i have viewed today, in honour of this..
I just came across a petition started by Potty and the Geelong skaters, to get a skatepark built in their area. They chose the location, came up with some ideas and have started getting signatures to build up so they can present it to their council.
Got me thinking. You guys (mainly doon) are always talking about how there is a lack of skateparks in the Illawarra but nobody has ever done anything to get one built.
A few of my friends have been involved in getting parks built throughout Victoria and I know it's not an easy task. Land permission, skatepark design, funding, etc. but it is well worth it in the end. Look at the Eaglehawk park in Victoria for example. Took several years, a lot of BBQs and a lot of determination, but now it is a high-class skatepark that people travel from all over to go to, all started by the local skaters.
I'm prepared to help get this going, I can talk to my mates about how to go about approaching council and government affiliates to get funding and all that jazz. Could be handy to get some of the older guys in the community and a few skateshop owners to get behind it.
So, I don't know the area well, but is there any locations that people have thought a park could go in? Somewhere that already has facilities such as toilets, public transport, some kind of lighting and access to public transport?

I have a feeling that may be owned by Weerona College.
Was just having a look around and someone on here got the Helensburgh park going. Does anybody know who? They would be good for council contacts. Apparently Joey had a fair amount to do with design work and all that? I didn't read the whole thread, skimmed through and saw a few names mentioned. There was also a guy named Barry?
And Danger Mouse, you're in it from the start. Who are you?
Is there any skateshops with a YMCA or Rotary owned land or building near it? They're more likely to approve something that is already near an established building where all they need to do is clear the land and build the park. They may also be more likely to build near a shop so kids aren't trecking all over town to going to and from, etc.

might be handy to have one of us on this WYAT to push the skatepark. seriously, $5k put aside for one. we could get two built for that price.

there were forms in extreme a while back that we filled out, well some of us did at least
i really would prefer a park in gong rather than in warrawong but i doubt the council is going to change their mind now
one in the park at the youth center would be nice, but thats just wishful thinking on my part

you know nothing. petitions were done about 2-3 years ago.
i think it was pretty much joey and barry s. that got all the progress in motion. they only just decided on the warrawong location (big paddock just south across the road from the cinemas) a month ago i guess. definately need someone like convic to build the park cause the council will just fuck it up eg. gerringong and jamberoo.
whats the go tomorow lads? wgong or kiama? was thinking shellharbour village and shellcove schools if anyone was keen?
