I don't live in Wollongong anymore, but if i did. of course i would have gone all the way to Bezerkly.
I was not part of the design committee for derra bowl, that was all barry strachan.
If the builders had've been able to build what Baz wanted, it would've been way more fun. It's a shame that the first time the council took Wollongong skateboarders seriously enough to build a park, the builders wouldn't let the designer anywhere near the place during construction to oversee it. It's a pity too because I remember seeing the drawings Baz had done and they were amazing. As were his designs for Dapto.
I was very much a part of the design process for Fairy Meadow though. we got to drive up to the Hurstville Bowl & Keirle Park in manly, with two council staffers to show them the only parks close enough at the time they were willing to travel to. Showing them what there was around. Hence the Corner transition with the escalator being quite similar to one side of Manly.
It was a similar situation again with the builders, no skaters were allowed any where near the place during construction, otherwise there would've been proper transitions and better coping.
And maybe it wasn't 15 years we hassled council, maybe it was only 12.
I was a little drunk last night.

Granty9 Mar 2013Yeah it was a bit harsh on them swamp box, but i agree with you that it is a bit of a bummer that not many people went. Everyone has to agree that wollongong is in desperate need of a new park. So instead of everyone fighting about who has the best come back lets talk about what people want!
Kudos to Kurt for getting involved.
Also totally agree that the park being dedicated to Jason. I sure as hell know he would be letting the council know what they should build!

Have a suss in the parks forum, Potty posted up some info and a flick of the design.
Can't get into my emails at the moment, but from memory there's an $800,000 budget and construction starts in August. Convic will be taking care of the build too so we should be pretty sweet in that department.
So there ya go, get psyched or have a cry, either way we're getting a long overdue new park.
